Publication number: 20140002093Abstract: A method for determining an actuation delay time for an electromechanical relay includes capturing a current waveform of an energized coil, determining a time at which the actuation component begins to move by analyzing the captured current waveform, and calculating the actuation delay time for the relay based on the time at which the actuation component begins to move. A method for determining a state of a latching relay includes energizing the coil of the latching relay, capturing a current waveform of the energized coil, and determining the state of the relay by analyzing the captured current waveform.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2012Publication date: January 2, 2014Applicant: LEVITON MANUFACTURING CO., INC.Inventors: Randall B. Elliott, David E. Burgess

Publication number: 20130231793Abstract: A networked lighting control device may include a switching device to control power to a load, a communication interface to couple the relay module to a control module at the relay panel, revenue-grade metering circuitry to monitor power flowing to the load, and a controller to control the switching device in response to inputs received at the communication interface and to transmit metrology data to the control module. A control module may include a mounting interface to mount the control module to a relay panel, a first communication port to receive first control inputs using a first protocol, a second communication port to receive second control inputs using a second protocol, a third communication port to control one or more relay modules mounted to the relay panel using the local communication format, and logic to translate the first and second control inputs to the local communication format.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 1, 2012Publication date: September 5, 2013Applicant: LEVITON MANUFACTURING CO., INC.Inventors: Randall B. Elliott, Subramanian Muthu, David Bruno

Patent number: 4656400Abstract: A variable reluctance actuator, of either the linear or rotary type, having a moving element operated by a solenoid, is controlled by a Hall effect sensor signal representative of flux density in the magnetic circuit of the actuator. The actuator may be operated in either a constant-force control mode, or a position-sensing or control mode. Substantially constant force, independent of position of the actuator's movable element, is obtained by varying, rather than stabilizing, the sensed magnetic field during movement. Position sensing, independent of actuator force, is obtained by variably controlling the magnitude of the excitation current of the Hall effect sensor in response to the magnitude of the coil current and Hall sensor output.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1985Date of Patent: April 7, 1987Assignee: Synektron CorporationInventors: Robert M.
