  • Patent number: 8712818
Abstract: A machine shop comprises a computer system programmed to automatically determine an access role for a worker in response to a log-in; automatically determine at least one task for the worker based on the access role; and automatically interface with different legacy servers to order, subject to the access role, at least one of machine tooling for the machining of the part, product materials to be machined, and distributed numerical control (DNC) data for the machining of the part.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 31, 2012
Date of Patent: April 29, 2014
    Assignee: The Boeing Company
Inventors: Gary W. Giles, Randall E. Patten

  • Patent number: 8285777
Abstract: A manufacturing method, software product, system for optimizing information flow within a manufacturing facility based upon the use of a network, a structured data exchange, and a browser allowing access to a plurality of servers, themselves containing software data, thereby presenting an uniform look and feel for the interface serving that information to each employee. Administrators grant employees access to data according to predefined constellations of roles within the manufacturing facility.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 13, 2003
Date of Patent: October 9, 2012
    Assignee: The Boeing Company

  • Patent number: 6834214
Abstract: A DNC system, method and computer-program product that utilize a wide area network (WAN), such as the Internet, to transfer numerical control (NC) programs to thereby control machine tool controllers is provided. The DNC system consists of at least one central processing element that includes at least one numerical NC program, and a workstation connected to the central processing elements via the WAN for selecting desired NC programs. Additionally, the system includes at least one machine tool controller for receiving the selected NC programs across the WAN from the central processing elements. Based upon the selected NC programs, the machine tool controllers can control the at least one machine tool during a manufacturing process. The system can further include at least one server processing element connected to the central processing elements via the WAN, and electrically connected to the machine tool controllers.
