Publication number: 20230027836Abstract: A spine implant for receipt between and fastened to a lower vertebra and an adjacent upper vertebra is characterized by an expandable cage and an expandable plate attached to the expandable cage. When the expandable cage is expanded, both the expandable cage and the expandable plate expand together at a uniform rate of movement. Engagement features of the expandable cage cooperate with engagement features of the expandable plate such that expansion of the expandable cage carries the expandable plate along during its expansion. The engagement features of the expandable cage may be configured as notches, cavities, or recessed pockets, while the engagement features of the expandable plate may be configured as tangs, flanges, or protuberances styled to be received by the configured notches of the expandable cage. Cam locks on the expandable plate help bone fastener backout.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2022Publication date: January 26, 2023Applicant: LIFE SPINE, INC.Inventors: Daniel P. Predick, Randall F. Dryer, Garrett D. Lauf

Publication number: 20220287750Abstract: A surgical screw is provided for use in fixing or fusing bone. The screw may include each of an inner and an outer helical thread that extends along its length. The geometries of the helices and the relationship between the inner thread and the outer thread may improve the performance of the screw. For example, the two helices may operate to improve the manner in which the screw can be strained.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 11, 2022Publication date: September 15, 2022Inventors: Liam Joseph Raymond McKay, Joshua Clayton Lyon, Rylan Reed, Randall F. Dryer, Ali Kiapour

Patent number: 8821547Abstract: A spinous process implant with two plates that are connected together with a post. The implant is configured for each plate to be positioned on outer lateral sides of spinous processes with the post extending through the interspinous space. One or both plates may be movable along the length of the post to accommodate different anatomies such as for relatively wide or thin spinous processes. The post includes an enlarged head at a first end to prevent the first plate from disassociating from the post in a first direction. The post also includes a boss at a second end to prevent the second plate from disassociating from the post in a second direction. Methods of attaching the implants to the spinous processes are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2010Date of Patent: September 2, 2014Assignee: Warsaw Orthopedic, Inc.Inventors: Randall F. Dryer, Greg C. Marik, Charles Schulte Sullivan, III, Steven D. DeRidder

Patent number: 8403990Abstract: An expandable spinal implant comprising a cage body including at least two movable branches having first end portions that are interconnected to one another and second end portions that are movable relative to one another. The movable branches include a first shell portion having a first pair of longitudinal edges and defining a first hollow region therebetween, and a second shell portion having a second pair of longitudinal edges and defining a second hollow region therebetween, with the first and second hollow regions cooperating to define at least a portion of a hollow interior of the cage body. An expansion member co-acts with the first and second shell portions to transition the cage body to an expanded configuration as the expansion member is axially displaced along said first and second pairs of longitudinal edges.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2009Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: Warsaw Orthopedic, Inc.Inventors: Randall F. Dryer, Bret M. Berry, Eric C. Lange

Publication number: 20120109203Abstract: Spinous process implants that may include a first plate sized to extend along a first lateral side of the spinous processes and a second plate sized to extend along a second lateral side of the spinous processes. The second plate may include a bore that extends through the second plate. An elongated post may extend through the bore with a first end attached to the first plate and a second end positioned outward beyond the outer surface of the second plate away from the first plate. A joint may be positioned along the post that attaches a first section of the post to a second section of the post. The joint may be constructed to align the first and second sections in a collinear orientation and to remove the second section from the first section. Additional joints may also be positioned along the post. The bore may be sized relative to the post for the second plate to be movable along a length of the post.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2010Publication date: May 3, 2012Applicant: WARSAW ORTHOPEDIC, INC.Inventors: Randall F.
