  • Patent number: 8460218
Abstract: A weight sensor includes a pad of electrically insulative material having a through aperture and electrode plates secured to its top and bottom surfaces at least partially covering the aperture. An electrical contactor in the aperture responds to a compressive force applied across the pad thickness to electrically interconnect the electrodes and close a circuit that permits an alarm to be actuated. The sensor is disposed in footwear worn by a patient being rehabilitated from a lower limb surgery or injury. The stiffness/compressibility of the pad determines the applied patient weight or compressive force required to permit the contactor to close the circuit between the electrodes.

  • Publication number: 20120078142
Abstract: A CPM chair for repeatedly flexing and extending a patient's knee permits a patient to remain comfortably seated while controlling therapeutic knee flexure and extension. A slide member is longitudinally reciprocal between extended and retracted positions with its slide direction controlled by the patent. A drum has an endless cable wrapped about its periphery and is rotated in alternate directions by a reversible electrical motor. The cable extends over respective forward and rearward pulleys and is secured to the slide member. A pedal assembly supports the patient's foot and is pivotally secured to the slide member to accommodate different positions of the patient's heel. Control switches are actuable by the patient to control slide member direction.

  • Patent number: 6960174
Abstract: A therapeutic treatment machine alternatingly applies compression and traction to a patient. A frame includes: a platform having an upper body support pad with controllable resistance to forward and backward displacement; rollers supporting the lower back, buttocks and thighs; and a motor-driven foot support displaceable forward and backward predetermined distances and speeds. Tubular frame members fit over and adhesively engage arms projecting orthogonally from a corner section. Legs telescopically receive leg support members extending orthogonally from the arms. Compression and traction are each forcefully effected by motor rotation converted to longitudinal reciprocation of a linkage that drives the foot support. The patient's feet are held in place against footplates by clamps supported on a T-bar cross member having a stem extending forwardly through a longitudinal slot in the footplates.

  • Publication number: 20050010145
Abstract: A therapeutic treatment machine for alternatingly applying equal amounts of compression and traction to the body of a patient includes a frame with a platform having an upper body support pad with selectively controllably resistance to forward and backward displacement, rotatable rollers to support the lower back, buttocks and thighs of the patient, and a selectively controllable motor driven foot support platform displaceable forward and backward predetermined distances and speeds. The frame is made from tubular members arranged to fit over and adhesively engage arms projecting orthogonally from a corner section. Legs from the frame telescopically receive leg support members extending from the arms orthogonally. Compression and traction are each forcefully effected by a motor, the rotation in which is converted to longitudinal reciprocation of a linkage arm that drives the foot support platform.

  • Patent number: 5505691
Abstract: A therapeutic treatment machine for alternatingly applying equal amounts of compression and traction to the body of a patient includes a platform having an upper body support pad with selectively controllably resistance to forward and backward displacement, rotatable rollers to support the lower back, buttocks and thighs of the patient, and a selectively controllable motor driven foot support platform displaceable forward and backward predetermined distances and speeds. The distance between the upper body support pad and the foot support platform is adjustable to accommodate differences in patient torso lengths and the magnitude of compressive and tractional force can be selectively controlled by the patient.
