  • Patent number: 11827167
Abstract: A system for managing wheel kinematics during a small overlap collision event includes a deflector apparatus. The deflector is configured to direct a wheel away from an occupant compartment of a vehicle. The deflector includes a first section arranged at an inside wall of a wheel well facing a wheel, near the base of a hinge-pillar. The first section includes a hollow structure configured to absorb energy from the collision event by plastically deforming. The deflector also includes a second section arranged at an angle to the wheel and configured to deflect the wheel laterally outwards from the vehicle away from an occupant compartment during the small overlap collision event. The deflector may be formed of extruded aluminum. The system may include an absorber arranged behind the first section and configured to further absorb energy from the collision event by plastically deforming.

  • Patent number: 11668129
Abstract: A system for managing opening and closing a pocket door includes a spindle, an actuator, and brackets. The spindle extends along a longitudinal axis between first and second ends, and is configured to be coupled to the pocket door. The actuator is coupled to the spindle and is configured to cause the spindle to move axially along the longitudinal axis. The brackets are connected to the spindle at each end and are constrained from longitudinal motion relative to the spindle. The brackets are configured to affix the spindle to the pocket door. A bushing system couples each bracket to the spindle and is configured to dampen impact between the spindle and the brackets. For example, the bushing system may include lobed elements, made of a rubber material, that engage each other to transmit azimuthal forces. In some embodiments, another actuator is included to improve cycle life and redundancy.

  • Publication number: 20170148423
Abstract: The Invention is designed so that it is comfortable to hold, and easy to play for long periods of time without becoming fatigued. There are two different designs that the invention can utilize. Both designs provide for an instrument that is compact, making it comfortable for the musician to reach various parts of the fingerboard while still providing a normal scale fretboard. The first design features one neck, shaped to look like the letter Z. The neck is actually composed of three sections: The first section contains the lower notes of the fretboard, while the second section contains the higher notes. Between these two sections sits a connecting strut that connects the strings via an additional string saddle. This design thus produces uses two separate fretboard areas that are easy to reach, providing comfortable access to a full scale of notes. The second design includes two wholly separate necks, similar to a double neck guitar.

  • Patent number: 8626862
Abstract: A system that includes a computer device and a user interface. The user interface is configured to enable a user to interact with a person using one of at least two of voice conversation, voice-video conversation, graphic text-based conversation, fax, and electronic mail. The interactions can include the following. Creating a rule to cause the computer device to automatically perform an action based on a request to converse with the user. Viewing an automatically generated listing of a set of persons, the listing comprising a name, presence information, and communication modes available for the user to communicate with the person from the set of persons. Selecting the person from the set of persons. Selecting a communication mode from the communication modes available to communicate with the person, and retrieving information about a person using an identifying characteristic of the person, where the identifying characteristic is selected by the user from a display. Communicating with the person.

  • Publication number: 20130290380
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing a media content database on a device is described. The method and apparatus include receiving event data associated with media content, the event data including an event identifier, determining if the event identifier matches an event identifier for event data already stored in a memory, adding the received event data to the event data if the received event identifier does not match an event identifier for the stored event data, and replacing the stored event data with the received event data if the received event identifier matches the event identifier for the stored event data.

  • Publication number: 20130232023
Abstract: The present invention is a system to process online monetary payments between end-users whose payments are dependent on conditional triggers involving future events, such as winning bids/offers in online auctions and online trading exchanges. These methods allow end-users of online auctions and online trading exchanges to send and receive payments directly to one another via online payment processors, without the online auction or online trading exchange becoming involved in payment collection. In the system, bids and offers are backed by actual funds held in reserve, or held in a queue, enabling instantaneous payments upon the close of an event. Thus, a user's winning bid instantly triggers a payment. The auction or trading exchange is not involved as a third party collector of funds, auction sellers avoids overdue, delinquent, and/or abandoned payments, and exchange traders receive instant account settlements.

  • Publication number: 20110196509
Abstract: A hydraulic apparatus has a cam body rotatable about an axis and with at least two mirror image involute cam surfaces on opposing sides of the axis. Hydraulic actuators on opposing sides of the axis have a linearly extendable ram and a hydraulic cylinder. A fluid supply line is provided for delivering a pressurized fluid equally to each of the cylinders. A pressure relief or flow control valve is associated with each of the hydraulic cylinders and is operable to selectively assume a closed position to retain fluid or assume an open position to release fluid from the hydraulic cylinders. A control can operate the pressure relief valves between at least the closed and open positions, to move the rams out of and in to the cylinders to rotate the cam body about the axis with controlled torque. A robotic, prosthetic or orthotic and a method for applying torque to a body are also disclosed.
