  • Patent number: 8092623
Abstract: An igniter composition is provided including metal fuel particles having a predetermined average diameter and metallic oxide oxidizer particles having a predetermined average diameter. The metal fuel particles are mixed substantially homogeneously with the metallic oxide oxidizer particles and, upon initiation of the igniter composition, actively participate in an exothermic reaction with the metallic oxide oxidizer particles. Also provided are methods and devices containing the igniter composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 22, 2008
Date of Patent: January 10, 2012
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
Inventors: Randall J. Cramer, Magdy Bichay
  • Patent number: 7896990
Abstract: Nanotubular structures of high energy materials are used in high energy compositions, such as propellants.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 2, 2005
Date of Patent: March 1, 2011
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
Inventors: James J. Baker, John R. Luense, Randall J. Cramer
  • Patent number: 6345577
Abstract: Propellant compositions are coated with an energetic deterrent coating which reduces the burning rate at the surface of the propellant grain and causes the propellant to burn progressively. The use of energetic materials, that are slightly soluble in the coating solvent, improve the burning properties of the propellant without decreasing the chemical energy.

  • Patent number: 5104571
Abstract: Liquid bleaching and brightening compositions are provided in which a polymeric matrix stably suspends a fluorescent whitening agent, and, optionally, pigment particles. A particularly preferred composition includes an aqueous solution having sodium hypochlorite in an amount of from about 3.5 wt. % to about 6.2 wt. %, an anionic or nonionic surfactant in an amount of from about 0.03 wt. % to about 0.3 wt. %, polymer in an amount of from about 0.03 wt. % to about 2.0 wt. %, a fluorescent whitening agent in an amount of from about 0.01 wt. % to about 0.2 wt. %, and, if desired, ultramarine blue particles in an amount of from about 0.01 wt. % to 0.2 wt. %, the fluorescent whitening agent and ultramarine blue particles being stably suspended and displaced in the aqueous solution via the polymer.

  • Patent number: 4931207
Abstract: Liquid bleaching and coloring compositions are provided in which a polymeric matrix stably suspends pigment particles. A preferred composition includes an aqueous solution having sodium hypochlorite in an amount of from about 3.5 wt. % to about 6.2 wt. %, an anionic or nonionic surfactant in an amount of from about 0.02 wt. % to about 5 wt. %, a polymer in an amount of from about 0.4 wt. % to about 0.6 wt. %, and ultramarine blue particles in an amount of from about 0.1 wt. % to 0.2 wt. %, the ultramarine blue particles being stably suspended and dispersed in the aqueous solution via the polymer.

  • Patent number: 4839077
Abstract: A thickened aqueous bleaching cleanser has a viscosity of at least 100 centipoise, provides a cleaning-effective residence time on non-horizontal surfaces, and maintains viscosity and bleach stability over a typical shelf life. In one embodiment the cleanser comprises a source of a halogen bleach, a copolymer thickener including a hydrophobic comonomer and a hydrophilic comonomer, and a mixed surfactant system including an uncharged surfactant and an anionic surfactant.
