Publication number: 20240042589Abstract: A percussion tool includes a housing having a top end, a bottom end, a front end, and a rear end. The housing defines a barrel portion, a handle portion opposite the barrel portion, and a motor housing portion between the barrel portion and the handle portion. The percussion tool also includes an electric motor positioned within the motor housing portion and a percussion mechanism driven by the motor and including a striker supported for reciprocation in the housing. The striker defines a striker axis in a reciprocating direction. The percussion tool further includes a battery receptacle supported by the housing and a battery pack removably coupled to the battery receptacle for providing power to the motor. The battery pack and the battery receptacle define a battery axis extending longitudinally through the battery pack and battery receptacle. The striker axis and the battery axis are parallel.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 20, 2023Publication date: February 8, 2024Inventors: Austin H. Kour, Andrew D. Van Hoorn, Randall J. Patent number: 10167766Abstract: An engine assembly includes a crankcase, shaft, blower housing, and cooling fan. The shaft is rotatably coupled to the crankcase and defines a rotational axis. The blower housing includes an internal space. The cooling fan is disposed within the internal space, includes a plate defining an upper surface, and is positioned to rotate with the shaft about the rotational axis. The cooling fan includes a band having an inner band radius and an outer band radius. The cooling fan includes a plurality of reversed fins extending between the band and the upper surface and between a root adjacent to the rotational axis and a tip adjacent to the outer band radius, each fin offset at an angle measured in a counterclockwise direction from a plane passing through the rotational axis and the tip to a plane passing through the root and the tip when viewed from above the cooling fan.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2016Date of Patent: January 1, 2019Assignee: Briggs & Stratton CorporationInventors: Brett Birschbach, Rodney John Balzar, Jeffery P. Patent number: 9926832Abstract: An engine assembly includes a crankcase, a shaft, a housing, and a cooling fan. The shaft is coupled to the crankcase and defines a rotational axis. The housing has a sidewall that defines an internal space. The cooling fan is disposed at least partially within the internal space and is coupled to the shaft. The cooling fan includes a plate defining an upper surface and a lower surface. The plate is positioned to rotate with the shaft about the rotational axis. The cooling fan also includes a band that has an inner band radius and an outer band radius. The cooling fan also includes a plurality of reversed fins coupled to the band and extending from the upper surface of the plate, further radially outward from the rotational axis than the band.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2015Date of Patent: March 27, 2018Assignee: Briggs & Stratton CorporationInventors: Brett Birschbach, Rodney John Balzar, Jeffrey P. Feist, Casey Edward Groh, Brian Thomas Johnson, Randall J. Klotka, Darwin A. Podhola

Patent number: 7594484Abstract: A blower housing for use with an engine. The blower housing is adapted to receive a stream of intake air, and the engine includes at least one cylinder. The blower housing includes an intake opening, an air filter housed within a filter compartment, and an air flow duct adjacent to the filter compartment. The air flow duct is configured to direct air to the at least one cylinder. The air flow duct includes a first surface and a second surface, the first surface being angled with respect to the second surface to deflect the air passing through the duct away from the first surface toward the second surface. The first surface separates the air into a first portion and a second portion having deflected particulate matter therein. The duct also has an aperture that allows air to flow from the duct to the air filter, and an exhaust window.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2006Date of Patent: September 29, 2009Assignee: Briggs and Stratton CorporationInventors: Stephen John Lavender, Randall J.
