  • Patent number: 7195729
Abstract: Composite webs having one or more polymeric structures located on a substrate, closure systems comprising composite webs, and methods of attaching articles are disclosed. The polymeric structures are formed using thermoplastic compositions and are attached to a surface of a substrate. The polymeric structures include an area that is attached to the substrate and a detached area that is not attached to a surface of a substrate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 22, 2003
Date of Patent: March 27, 2007
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
Inventors: Byron M. Jackson, Leigh E. Wood, Randall L. Alberg, Dennis L. Becker, Roger D. Pavlis
  • Patent number: 6942894
Abstract: Methods of manufacturing composite webs including a substrate with one or more reinforcing discrete polymeric regions located on or within the composite web are disclosed. Molten nonelastomeric thermoplastic material of the discrete polymeric region is forced against the substrate by a transfer roll. If the substrate is porous, fibrous, etc., a portion of the nonelastomeric thermoplastic composition may infiltrate the substrate and/or encapsulate fibers of the substrate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 5, 2001
Date of Patent: September 13, 2005
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
Inventors: Randall L. Alberg, Bradley W. Eaton, Leigh E. Wood
  • Patent number: 6880211
Abstract: There is provided an improved tab member for a closure system comprising a tab portion and a slot member. The slot member includes a slit or a loop, with the slot located between an inboard portion and an outboard portion. The tab portion has a tab member having a length, an inner edge, an outer edge and at least one lip portion. The tab member outer edge is passed through the slot of the slot member to engage the fastening device. Once passed through the slot, at least one lip portion of the tab member overlaps or catches the outboard portion of the slot member to prevent the tab member from disengaging from the slot member. The slot member outward portion is retained between the lip portion(s) and the underlying generally flexible tab carrier substrate.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20040178544
Abstract: Composite webs having one or more polymeric structures located on a substrate, methods of manufacturing the composite webs, and systems for manufacturing the composite webs are disclosed. The polymeric structures are formed using thermoplastic compositions deposited into one or more depressions on a forming tool. The forming tool is maintained at a temperature that is below the melt processing temperature of the thermoplastic composition.

  • Patent number: 5360944
Abstract: A high impedance cable includes a first layer of insulation surrounding a series of conductors to form a conventional ribbon cable and a second layer of insulation which conforms to the first layer of insulation and is retained in contact with the first layer of insulation in a manner which substantially excludes air from between the two layers of insulation but permits the second layer of insulation to be stripped from the ribbon cable for convention mass termination of the ribbon cable.
