  • Patent number: 7418751
Abstract: An apparatus adjusts the pressures of a therapeutic mattress surface in accordance with the angular position of that surface. The apparatus comprises an angular position sensor and a rotation sensor which are housed together in an enclosure having a top surface in the form of a circular plate. The circular plate mounts either on the surface of the mattress or on the bottom of a bed frame supporting the mattress. The angular position and rotation sensors measure the horizontal plane referenced perpendicular to the direction of the force of gravity. The apparatus further comprises a controller blower valve assembly which processes data received from the angular position and rotation sensors to maintain, increase, or decrease the pressures within the mattress.

  • Patent number: 5168589
Abstract: An inflatable mattress made of multiple, integrally joined cushions designed to reduce patient interface pressures, which may be used separately or as an overlay on a standard hospital bed. Each cushion and section of the mattress is formed by joining upper and lower sheets, both to form the edges of the cushions and sections and to provide a relatively flat support surface which is laterally bounded by inflatable ridges which help keep the patient from rolling or sliding off either side of the mattress. The upper and lower sheets to form the mattress are made from a water vapor permeable but waterproof material, certain sections of the upper surface of the cushions being formed of air-permeable material which serves to allow air to escape in the area where a patient lies to provide comfort and therapy for the patient.

  • Patent number: 4449164
Abstract: The cooling of electronic modules on a circuit board is improved by the use of heat sinks comprising a plurality of longitudinal fins projecting from the modules. Individual tubes communicating with an air plenum fit around and part way along each heat sink. Air drawn from or forced into the plenum causes air flow within the tubes and along the fins to cool them and the modules to which they are attached.
