  • Publication number: 20110155915
Abstract: A system for sterilizing packaged products, for example liquid products, with ultraviolet light. The system includes an apparatus for moving product through a treatment zone for a period of time and in a manner sufficient to sterilize the product.

  • Patent number: 6613036
Abstract: Light-protective container assembly for a light-sensitive fluid includes a translucent container defining an inner reservoir to contain the fluid, and a flexible sleeve connected to the container. The sleeve has a tubular configuration sized to substantially cover at least the reservoir of the container, and is made of a material capable of substantially preventing the transmission therethrough of an identified range of wavelengths from the electromagnetic spectrum. Preferably, the sleeve is made of a mixture of a base material and a colorant capable of substantially preventing the transmission of undesired energy through a predetermined thickness of the base. material. The sleeve is connected indirectly to the container by providing the container with at least one passageway therethrough, and by positioning the sleeve such that a first portion of the sleeve is on one side of the container, and a second portion is on an opposite side of the container.

  • Patent number: 6440101
Abstract: A syringe system requires a decreased vertical travel for sealing during a lyophilization process and therefore provides for increased utilization of space in a lyophilization chamber. The syringe system is provided with a sterility maintenance sleeve including a stopper affixed thereto for sealingly engaging the syringe barrel to define a drug chamber. The sterility maintenance sleeve is provided with a venting passage to permit egress of vapor from the drug chamber during lyophilization. A plug cap cooperating with the sterility maintenance sleeve includes an occluding tip which is adapted to occupy the venting passage and seal the drug chamber after lyophilization. The plug cap is provided with a support structure in the form of flexible fins for supporting the plug cap in a venting position in which the occluding tip is removed from the venting passage to permit egress of drug solution vapor from the drug chamber during lyophilization.

  • Patent number: 6367961
Abstract: An apparatus for making a sterile emulsion, comprising a fluid pathway, a pumping bore, a reciprocable (reciprocal) member, and a valve body. The pumping bore being in fluid communication with the fluid pathway and having a reciprocable member reciprocably disposed in the pumping bore. The reciprocable member having first portion disposed in fluid communication with the fluid pathway and a second portion isolated from the fluid pathway, said second portion having a sterilant passage adjacent thereto. The fluid pathway, reciprocable member first portion and reciprocable member second portion may be sterilized and one or more emulsion constituents may be directed into the fluid pathway defined by the piston apparatus after sterilization. The valve body defines a valve bore in communication with the fluid pathway and a valve plunger disposed therein. The valve body may also be configured to maintain emulsion sterility.
