  • Patent number: 7849619
Abstract: An enhanced identification appliance, such as a wristband, bracelet, patch, headband, neckband, ankleband, legband, card, sticker, or other wearable appliance, may have a biometric, chemical, optical, heat, pressure, humidity, electromagnetic, and/or acoustic sensor, various opto-electronics and/or various security features such as tamper-evident and tamper-resistant features. The sensors may obtain wearer-related information such as a fingerprint, retina, iris, blood, DNA, genetic data, voice pattern, temperature and other characteristic. Security features include a fastener on the identification appliance, which indicates whether the appliance has been attached to a wearer and if so, enables circuit functions. If one tampers with the appliance, circuit functions may be disabled, certain data erased, and/or evidence of tampering made apparent. The appliance may monitor the location or determine the identity of vehicle passengers for an airplane, train, boat, bus, etc.

  • Patent number: 7277615
Abstract: A fiber optic cable and a method of making the same include at least one optical waveguide, at least one dry insert and a cable jacket. The at least one optical waveguide and at least one dry insert are at least partially disposed within a cavity of the cable jacket. In one embodiment, the cable includes a first dry insert and a second dry insert disposed within the cavity so that the at least one optical waveguide is disposed between the first dry insert and the second dry insert.

  • Publication number: 20030174049
Abstract: An identification appliance such as a wristband, headband, armband, ankleband, or legband which has a wireless communication circuit to communicate with a system, network, or device. The identification appliance preferably communicates with a Bluetooth local network and may issue or receive commands or data including voice data. An example command is to expand privileges given to the user of the identification appliance, such as entrance into a restricted area. The information appliance may broadcast its location via a Global Positioning System and have voice activation or speech recognition. The appliance may provide information about the authorized bearer such as his name, address, phone number, passport number, driver's license data, social security number, credit card information, fingerprint data, biometric voice characteristics, retinal characteristics, medical data and so on.

  • Publication number: 20020061758
Abstract: The present mobile wireless local area network system for automating fleet operations creates a short-range wireless local area network (wireless LAN) on a transportation vehicle, such as a: trailer, container, railroad car, ship, or the like. The mobile wireless LAN couples data to a LAN hub from a plurality of wireless sensors that are placed in various locations on the transportation vehicle and on the cargo that is contained in the transportation vehicle. The collected data represents various environmental and functional measurements associated with the transportation vehicle and the cargo. The mobile wireless LAN travels with the transportation vehicle and can interact with a hub on other compatible wireless LANs or wireless interfaces on the hub of a wireline-based LAN that are within data signal transmission and reception range.
