  • Patent number: 5850881
Abstract: A float valve 10 includes a valve body 12 for sealing engagement with a float sub 20 having threads for threaded engagement with an oilfield tubular. A valve element 40 includes a stem 50, 70 and a valve cone 52, 80 secured thereto. The valve cone is configured for sealing engagement with a seat 58 on the valve body. An elastomeric seal 48 may also be provided for sealing engagement with the valve body. The stem 50, 70 and the cone 52, 80 are preferably interconnected by a shrink-fit operation, wherein the cone is heated so that a cylindrical recess within the cone expands, while at least a front end 52, 72 of the stem 50, 70 is cooled so that its diameter is reduced. The shrink-fit operation forms a surprisingly reliable interconnection of a float valve stem with a cone, and substantially increases the life of the downhole float valve.

  • Patent number: 5727775
Abstract: The gate valve 10 suitable for controlling fluid flow into a gas injection well of a hydrocarbon recovery operation includes a thru-conduit valve body 12, a bonnet 30, an operator handle 36 for raising and lowering a gate 22. A pair of seat assemblies 26, 28 are provided on opposing sides of the gate. Each seat assembly seals with a planar face of the gate, and includes a metal seat ring 56 and a pair of concentric face seals 70 and 72 supported on the seat ring. The seal rings are fabricated from a selected plastic material, and may be easily removed and reinstalled on the seat ring for customizing the gate valve for specific applications, and for reduced maintenance. The seat ring 56 is configured to facilitate its removal from the valve body.

  • Patent number: 5109926
Abstract: An inflatable packing tool is provided for use in a subterranean wellbore. The inflatable packing tool is coupled to a wellbore conduit with a central bore which directs pressurized fluid into the wellbore. The inflatable packing tool includes a central tubular body for directing fluid in the wellbore. Upper and lower stationary collar members are secured to the central tubular body for coupling the central tubular body to the wellbore conduit. An annular inflatable packing element surrounds the central tubular body, and includes a flexible fluid-tight sleeve covered by a plurality of overlapping an axially extending reinforcing ribs. A slidable sleeve assembly is coupled to one end of the annular inflatable packing element.
