  • Patent number: 6202985
Abstract: A tool for lifting and removing heavy lids, such as manhole covers and similar articles. The tool includes an elongate lever with a handgrip at the upper end and a pivot head at the lower end. Wheels on the pivot head provide a pivot axis, with a hook being mounted in front of the pivot axis and a footplate being mounted behind the axis. The hook is inserted in an opening in the lid, and the lid is then lifted and removed by pulling back on the lever and stepping down on the footplate. After removal, the lid can be transported by rolling the assembly over the ground using the wheels. The invention thus facilitates removal and installation of heavy lids with minimal strain and potential injury to the operator.

  • Patent number: 5743208
Abstract: A tubular sleeve has two spaced rows of holes with the holes of one row axially offset lengthwise of the row of holes and a horizontal slot at right angles to the rows of holes, the sleeve fitted telescopically over two axially aligned and spaced tubes that hold up a cover, each tube having detents that fit respectively into one of the holes of the rows of holes and into the slot so that the lengthwise spacing between the tubes can be adjusted by repositioning a detent into a different hole in a different row of the holes to adjust the tension against a cover to be held upright by the tubes.

  • Patent number: 5346451
Abstract: Longitudinally extensible and shortenable pump poles designed for hand and arm action in dual-action exercise apparatus such as cross country ski exercises and dual-action climbers, treadmills and the like, such pump poles being fixedly attached to the apparatus base rearwardly thereof and manipulated concurrently with or independently of reciprocating leg action. Each pump pole has inner and outer telescoping tubes and an air pressurizable chamber providing greater resistance to pole shortening movement than occurs during pole lengthening movement. Hand and arm movement by the user when reciprocating the pole handles simulates the hand and arm movement of a person actually moving over ground.

  • Patent number: 4695050
Abstract: An exercise rowing machine includes a frame (10) constructed with a longitudinal beam structure (12) overlying a forward substructure (14) A seat (24) is mounted on an underlying carriage assembly (26) having rollers (138) and (140) which ride on upper and lower rails (114) and (120) of a first track (110), and rollers (150) which ride on upper and lower rails (122) and (128) of a second track (112). Both tracks (110) and (112) are integrally formed with frame beam structure (12) in the interior thereof. A support stand (180) for supporting the rearward end of frame (10) above the floor at a desired elevation is constructed with a plurality of upwardly open troughs (184A, 184B and 184C) which receive a lip portion (188) extending downwardly from rear crossmember (82) of the machine frame (10).

  • Patent number: 4592544
Abstract: A stationary exercise apparatus intended to simulate the action of pedaling a bicycle includes a base and a flywheel mounted on the base for rotation about a vertical axis. The flywheel is coupled in driven relationship to a pair of pedal cranks mounted on the base. The pedal cranks are mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis as in a conventional bicycle. Preferably, the flywheel is mounted directly below the pedals on a shaft whose upper end is formed to be a worm, the worm being driven by a drive gear attached to the pedal cranks. The orientation and location of the flywheel add to the stability of the exercise device as well as aiding in the outward appearance of the device.
