  • Publication number: 20090084032
Abstract: A device and method that uses the application of light to retard the wilting and spoilage of cut flowers. The lamps used can direct focused illumination in the targeted wavelengths known to positively and optimally affect the viability of different types of cut flowers, hi the most preferred embodiment, an LED light source is positioned to direct light upwardly toward the flowers, either from a base structure upon which a vase holding the flowers and having a transparent bottom surface is placed, or from a position within an opaque vase holding flowers that is substantially below the flower stems. Optionally, light can be directed from the side or overhead, but such a configuration is not optimal. Side-by-side testing confirms that flowers exposed to the light lasted more than a week longer than those not having the added illumination.

  • Publication number: 20080163529
Abstract: Various implementations of the present invention provide systems and methods for lighting artwork. One implementation provides for placing the artwork, such as a photograph, in intimate contact with a transparent compliant layer. A transparent front panel is placed in front of the compliant layer. A light source is disposed along an edge of the front panel and compliant layer so that light radiated by the light source travels into the front panel and then through the compliant layer where the light is scattered back to an observer.

  • Patent number: 6460488
Abstract: An animal leash, and a method of manufacture, having at least three flexible cords, at least one locking mechanism for joining the cords in end-to-end relation, a resilient freely rotating handle configured for user comfort and enhanced grip, and a bolt snap for animal collar connection. The material used for the middle cord would comprise a small amount of longitudinal stretch, enough to allow a lunging animal to move slowly forward a short distance beyond its non-stretched length and then gently urge the animal to withdraw from its lunging position, thus enhancing the comfort of animal and animal owner alike, protecting the animal during its attachment to stationary objects and attempts to lunge at other objects, as well as protecting the animal owner's arms, shoulders and back from the abrupt and substantial wrenching forces that would otherwise be experienced during attempts to control a lunging animal.

  • Patent number: 6438802
Abstract: A two-part locking mechanism, and method of use, with each clamping member therein having a plurality of channels, and each channel having an interior hollow space and at least one ridge with a plurality of angled teeth therebetween, whereby when the clamping members are placed around the ends of resilient cords or tubing, and are further secured tightly to one another with threaded fasteners, the resilient cords or tubing become fixed firmly and remain therebetween even when subjected to sudden and substantial forces. Applications may include, but are not limited to, use in fixing two pieces of resilient tubing or cord in working relation to one another so that one is formed into a loop for use as a handle. When cords or tubing are thus secured, they can be used for anchoring an animal, tying down a trailer load, or stabilizing the frame for a tarp or tent.
