  • Publication number: 20060238813
Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methods for implementing polar halftone techniques that substantially reduce or eliminate interference patterns while printing on rotating circular media with a radial print system. In one embodiment, Cartesian image pixels are selected such that screen pixels or “dots” are arranged fan-shaped along radii (or “spokes”) and in annular ring segments (or “arcs”). Halftone sampling frequency may be varied along spokes and arcs or along a polynomial curve relative to the center of spinning media, in order to reduce distortion and artifacts.

  • Publication number: 20060209102
Abstract: Method and apparatus for printing onto a rotating media is described. According to one embodiment, the printing system includes a print head that is laterally displaced from a radial printing radius, a rotating mechanism to rotate the media, and a controller to print onto an annular print area. The annular print area is defined by an inner hub circumference, two lines substantially parallel to the radial printing radius and tangential to the inner hub circumference, and an outer edge of the media. The print head moves about the annular print area by one or more motion mechanism and prints images onto the media.

  • Publication number: 20050206661
Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methods for implementing a radial sled printer device that substantially simplifies the complexity and reduces system costs and size for radial printing devices, both for devices that print and those that also record and print a label on circular media. In an embodiment, a print head is radially mounted in a substantially fixed position over a platter such that said platter moves as a sled under the print head for dispensing ink object along a radius or a line parallel to a radius as the media spins, effecting labeling of the media. In an alternate embodiment, a print head is radially mounted in a fixed position over an optical recording drive such that said drive moves as a sled under the print head for dispensing ink object along a radius as the media spins, affecting recording and labeling the media in a single insertion of the media.

  • Publication number: 20050029781
Abstract: A passenger airbag assembly having a first cushion and a second cushion is disclosed. An inflator mechanism that independently inflates the first cushion and the second cushion may also be added. The inflator mechanism may either be a dual stage inflator or two separate inflators. Preferably, the airbag assembly is designed such that the inflator mechanism begins the inflation of the first cushion prior to beginning the inflation of the second cushion. A housing may also be added to the airbag assembly. The housing encloses the inflator mechanism and is attached to the first cushion and the second cushion. The airbag assembly may be designed such that when the first cushion and the second cushion are inflated, the second cushion is positioned between the first cushion and the vehicle's windshield. Furthermore, the airbag assembly may also be made such that when the first cushion is inflated, the first cushion will push a vehicle occupant towards the vehicle's passenger seat.

  • Patent number: 6765871
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling the flow of fiber channel (FC) data frames from a fiber channel link to a metropolitan area link of lesser bandwidth (a synchronous optical network (SONET)). The release of each data unit by a data source for transport onto the first channel is governed by a credit-based protocol whereby one data unit is released upon the provision of one credit unit. A first marker identifies a high limit H of the buffer at which a first condition occurs, H being less than N and the first condition applying when the number of data units in the buffer is greater than H. A second marker identifies a low limit L of the buffer at which a second condition occurs, L being less than H and the second condition applying when the number of data units in the buffer is less than L. A credit unit owed counter O counts the number of credit units which become owed to the data source when the second condition applies.

  • Publication number: 20040067162
Abstract: A tube and float system for use in separation and axial expansion of the buffy coat includes a transparent or semi-transparent, flexible sample tube and a rigid separator float having a specific gravity intermediate that of red blood cells and plasma. The float includes a main body portion of reduced diameter to provide a clearance gap between the inner wall of the sample tube and the float. One or more protrusions on the main body portion serve to support the flexible tube. During centrifugation, the centrifugal force enlarges of the diameter of the tube to permit density-based axial movement of the float in the tube. The float further includes a pressure relief system to alleviate pressure build up in the trapped red blood cell blood fraction below the float, thereby preventing red blood cells from being forced into the annular gap containing the buffy coat layers.

  • Patent number: 6488447
Abstract: A buoyancy system for a deep water floating platform includes at least one composite buoyancy module coupled to the a riser having a length greater than 1000 feet and an associated weight. The composite buoyancy module is sized to have a volume to produce a buoyancy force at least as great as the weight of the riser.
