Patent number: 9421475Abstract: An interactive toy for interacting with a user while a story is being read aloud from a book or played from a movie/video. The toy includes a speech recognition unit that receives and detects certain triggering phrases as they are read aloud or played from a companion literary work. The triggering phrase read aloud from the book or played in the movie/video may have independent significance or may only have significance when combined with other phrases read aloud from the book or played in the movie/video. In one embodiment, the toy is configured to detect only certain types of triggering prompts in certain states, such as, for example, triggering phrases or triggering terms. In this embodiment, and others, the toy is configured to switch between states such that it can at times respond to triggering terms and at other times respond to triggering phrases.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2012Date of Patent: August 23, 2016Assignee: HALLMARK CARDS INCORPORATEDInventors: Jennifer R. Publication number: 20110174048Abstract: A flaring body has first and second opposing ends. A perimeter surface intersects the first end, and a flaring surface is located between the perimeter surface and the second end. The perimeter surface has a first cross-sectional profile with a first area, and the flaring surface having a second cross-sectional profile with a second area less than the first area. The perimeter surface and the flaring surface are joined by an inside, rounded corner. A crimping body has a top surface and an opposing bottom surface, and an interior surface that forms defines a passageway that connects said top and bottom surfaces. The interior surface has a third cross-sectional profile with a third area larger than the first area. The flaring body is slidably captureable in the passageway. The interior surface further has a crimping channel that extends along at least a portion thereof and terminates at the bottom surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2010Publication date: July 21, 2011Applicant: Lennox Industries Inc.Inventors: Donald N. Zimmer, Randy D. Smith, Roger W. Vreeland

Publication number: 20090106183Abstract: Deterministic finite automata (DFAs) are popular solutions to deep packet inspection because they are fast and DFAs corresponding to multiple signatures are combinable into a single DFA. Combining such DFAs causes an explosive increase in memory usage. Extended finite automata (XFAs) are an alternative to DFAs that avoids state-space explosion problems. XFAs extend DFAs with a few bytes of “scratch memory” used to store bits and other data structures that record progress. Simple programs associated with automaton states and/or transitions manipulate this scratch memory. XFAs are deterministic in their operation, are equivalent to DFAs in expressiveness, and require no custom hardware support. Fully functional prototype XFA implementations show that, for most signature sets, XFAs are at least 10,000 times smaller than the DFA matching all signatures. XFAs are 10 times smaller and 5 times faster or 5 times smaller and 20 times faster than systems using multiple DFAs.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2008Publication date: April 23, 2009Inventors: Cristian Estan, Randy D. Smith, Somesh Jha

Patent number: 7036498Abstract: A multi-position furnace is provided that can be positioned for downflow operation, upflow operation, left horizontal flow operation, or right horizontal flow operation without major modifications in the field. The furnace includes a multi-position condensate draining system which facilitates draining of condensate fluid regardless of the orientation of the furnace. The condensate draining system includes a header box and an exhaust manifold, each of which includes a number of drain ports that allow fluid condensing from combustion gasses to be drained regardless of furnace orientation. A trap is configured for attachment to the furnace in any one of four different positions, and receives condensate fluid from the header box and from the exhaust manifold. An air intake manifold is specially configured to maintain a low profile, thereby facilitating use of the multi-position condensate draining system.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2003Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: Lennox Manufacturing Inc.Inventors: Matthew S. Riepenhoff, Floyd E. Cherington, Cyril E. Fowble, IV, Glenn W. Kowald, Charles T. Post, Randy D. Smith

Patent number: 6485294Abstract: In a gas-burning apparatus, such as a furnace, a device for reducing NOx emissions includes a cup member mounted proximate to an inlet to a combustion chamber of the apparatus and a perforate member attached to the cup member and located in the combustion chamber at a predetermined distance inwardly from the inlet. The perforate member has a plurality of holes to define a mesh pattern through which the flame and other products of combustion are constrained to pass within the combustion chamber. The perforate member acts as a heat sink to reduce the flame temperature, thereby inhibiting NOx production.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2000Date of Patent: November 26, 2002Assignee: Lennox Manufacturing Inc.Inventors: Matthew S. Riepenhoff, Glenn W. Kowald, Randy D. Smith, Hugh E. Vinson
