  • Publication number: 20130284846
Abstract: A method for automatically adjusting a level of tension in web media being transported in a roll-fed web media transport system, comprising: receiving web media from a source roller, feeding the web media through an S-shaped media path in an automatically-adjusting tensioning mechanism where the web media is wrapped around curved surfaces on first and second tensioning shoes, and pulling the web media through the automatically-adjusting tensioning mechanism using a feed mechanism. The tensioning mechanism includes: a bracket assembly mounted to a frame which is adapted to freely pivot around a pivot axis. A pivot angle of the bracket assembly automatically adjusts in response to differences in a coefficient of friction between the web media and the tensioning shoes such that the tension in the web media has a reduced level of variability relative to configurations where the bracket assembly is held in a fixed position.

  • Patent number: 8465148
Abstract: A printing machine for printing on a web includes a plurality of guide rollers for guiding the web through a simplex and a duplex path in the printing machine. The duplex path is adjacent and laterally shifted with respect to the simplex path. An apparatus for turning or laterally shifting the web and transfer the web from the simplex path to the duplex path includes four rollers. 90° twists are present between rollers 1 and 2 and between rollers 3 and 4. Rollers 1 and 4 are substantially parallel, and rollers 2 and 3 are substantially parallel. Rollers 1 and 4 are substantially at right angles to rollers 2 and 3.

  • Publication number: 20120067239
Abstract: A method for turning or laterally shifting a web in a printing machine includes guiding the web successively around four rollers. Roller 2 is rotated with respect to roller 1 by about 90°, so that a strand of the web extending between the first and second rollers performs a first twist by about 90°. Rollers 1 and 3 are substantially parallel so that the strand of the web extending between the second and third rollers is straight. Roller 4 is rotated with respect to roller 3 by about 90°, so that a strand of the web extending between rollers 3 and 4 performs a second twist by about 90°.

  • Patent number: 5652781
Abstract: A x-ray fill cassette for use with radiographic film. The cassette has a tube side unit and a cover unit. The units together define a film space for the film. The units are relatively pivotable between an open state and a closed state. The tube side unit is substantially convex in at least one of length and width dimensions when the traits are in the open state. The tube side unit is substantially flat in both length and width dimensions when the film is in the film space and the units are in the closed state. The tube side unit includes a compressible pad that adjoins the fill space. The cover unit includes a cover panel, a pressure panel, and an intensifying screen. The cover panel and the pressure panel are rigidly mounted in spaced parallel relation. The intensifying screen is adhered directly to the pressure panel adjoining the film space.
