  • Patent number: 5924242
Abstract: A safety gate for use in obstructing doorways, passageways and similar openings to restrict the movement of children. The safety gate includes a panel that can be readily secured in and removed from the opening by extending and retracting a bumper mounted on an outer rail of the panel. The bumper is biased to the extended position in a first direction by a spring that is moved in a second direction transverse to the first direction. The gate can include a pair of extendable bumpers and a pair of springs that independently bias the bumpers to the extended position when moved in the transverse second direction relative to the bumpers. The spring can be a leaf spring having one end attached to a drive member, which can be moved in the first direction, and an opposite end that is slidably supported on a surface of the drive member.

  • Patent number: 5519905
Abstract: A bed side rail particularly suitable for use by childred has a protective panel which carries a pair of arms that fit under a mattress to support the panel at the edge of a bed. Hinges connect the panel to the arms so that the panel may be moved between an operative position wherein it extends upwardly from the arms above the level of the mattress to an inoperative position wherein it extends downwardly from the arms out of the way. The panel carries a flashlight which may readily be removed from the panel by a small child. The flashlight has an actuator in the grip which turns the flashlight on when the handle is grasped by the child, and the light will remain on for a selected period after the child replaces the flashlight in the pocket of the panel and releases the actuator. The flashlight is retained in the pocket so that it will not fall out when the panel is moved between operative and inoperative positions and yet may be removed from the pocket by the child when desired.

  • Patent number: 5474355
Abstract: A combination booster seat and high chair having a back member and a pair of arm panels pivotally connected to the sides of the back member. The arms move between an operative position wherein they are disposed essentially perpendicular to and extending forward of the back member and an inoperative position wherein they lie in a plane closely adjacent to and parallel with the back member. A seat is detachably connected to both the back member and the arms panels and may be pivoted to a vertical position on the back member when the unit is in the inoperative position so that the seat panel lies between the back member and the side panels. A tray is detachably connected to the side panels and may be removed when the unit is in the inoperative position and stored adjacent the seat between the back member and the arm panels. The height of the seat may be varied by inverting it in the operative position, and the tray may be adjusted toward and away from the back member.

  • Patent number: 5367829
Abstract: A security gate for children having a pair of gate sections that slide relative to each other to vary the effective width of the gate. The sections carry bumpers on their outer vertical side rails, and the bumpers on one side rail are extendable so that they force the bumpers to frictionally engage the sides of an opening to be closed by the gate. Independent of the bumpers brackets are provided on the vertical outer side rails and the sides of the opening to position the gate in the opening and resist the gate from being pushed out of the opening. The gate may be permanently mounted in the opening by hinges or may be removable from the opening.
