Publication number: 20230251064Abstract: A net-shape ballistic panel is formed by a process of arranging a fiber bundle on a substrate to form a layer, the layer following a shape of the ballistic panel, securing the fiber bundle to the substrate with a plurality of stitches to form a preform layer, arranging additional layers of fiber bundles on the preform layer, each layer of the additional layers following the shape of the ballistic panel, and each fiber bundle being secured with a plurality of stitches to each layer of the additional layers to form a plurality of preform layers. A resin is then impregnated into the preform layers and subsequently cured using a process such as compression molding. The resulting ballistic panel is relatively thin while exhibiting an excellent ballistic rating (e.g., V50).Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2022Publication date: August 10, 2023Applicants: Ford Global Technologies, LLC, J. & P. Patent number: 9352683Abstract: Data is collected related one or more objects proximate to a first vehicle, the one or more objects including a second vehicle. The collected data is used to generate a virtual map of the one or more objects including the second vehicle. It is determined that the second vehicle is likely to pass within a predetermined distance of the first vehicle, thereby identifying a threat of a collision. An action is initiated based on the threat. The predetermined distance is determined by comparing a current traffic density to a predetermined traffic density threshold.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2015Date of Patent: May 31, 2016Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Brad Alan Ignaczak, Thomas Lee Miller, Brian Bennie, Randy Michael Freiburger

Publication number: 20140092249Abstract: A perimeter detection system for a vehicle has a plurality of sensors provided on an exterior of the vehicle for sensing an object in a peripheral field of view during motion of the vehicle. The plurality of sensors includes a front sensor configured for sensing substantially forward the vehicle, a rear sensor configured for sensing substantially rearward the vehicle; and a side sensor configured for sensing substantially laterally adjacent the vehicle. The perimeter detection system also has a controller for processing the plurality of sensors to detect the object in the peripheral field of view when the vehicle is stopped, such as when a transmission of the vehicle is in park. An output signal is generated that is indicative of the object detected in the peripheral field of view. The output signal may be audible and visual and may include a door lock signal and a window raising signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 15, 2013Publication date: April 3, 2014Applicant: FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventor: Randy Michael Freiburger
