Patent number: 7567176Abstract: An anti-theft and file security system for a portable electronic device that uses a wireless transceiver coupled to the electronic device, which detects an identifying RF signal produced by a wireless access point. In the preferred embodiment, the access point is connected to a local or wide area network within a geographical area in which the portable electronic device is operated. During use, the RF signal from the access point is detected by a wireless transceiver. Loaded into the memory of the electronic device is a software program that determines if the RF signal is produced by a recognized access point. If the RF signal produced by the access point is recognized, then the electronic device continues to operate and allows full access to secured files loaded thereon. If no RF signal is detected or if the detected RF signal is from a non-recognizable access point, then operation of the electronic device is terminated and/or access to the secured file is blocked.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2005Date of Patent: July 28, 2009Inventor: Randy Stephens

Publication number: 20080235055Abstract: Described are techniques for identifying samples processed in a laboratory using harmonized identifier. A case identifier identifying a patient from whom a specimen is collected is determined. A specimen identifier associated with the specimen is determined. An entry for the specimen is recorded in a data store where the entry being associated with the case identifier and the specimen identifier. A harmonized specimen identifier including the case identifier and the specimen identifier is formed. The specimen is labeled with the harmonized specimen identifier.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 13, 2007Publication date: September 25, 2008Inventors: Scott Mattingly, Alain Larson, Brian Messick, Jack Phillips, Randy Stephens, William C. Publication number: 20070060874Abstract: The present invention provides apparatuses and methods to safely and economically deliver infusion fluid to a patient during a medical procedure. The infusion fluid may be a sedative, analgesic, amnestic or other pharmaceutical agent (drug) for alleviating a patient's pain and anxiety before, during and/or after a medical or surgical procedure. In general the apparatus comprises a microprocessor-based controller that receives inputs from a plurality of physiological monitors attached to a patient. The system controller processes the data from the physiological monitors and based upon a fluid infusion algorithm delivers infusion fluid to a patient. The physiological monitors monitor the patient throughout the course of the procedure and depending upon the health of the patient, drug delivery may be adjusted to optimize the procedure while ensuring the patient's health is maintained.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 11, 2006Publication date: March 15, 2007Inventors: Matthew Nesbitt, Ross Krogh, Randy Stephens, Paul Niklewski, Michael Boehm, Satyajeet Parakh
