  • Patent number: 7044812
Abstract: A header assembly includes an insulative housing comprising a plurality of walls defining an interior cavity, and a plurality of contacts within said cavity and extending through one of the walls to an exterior of the housing for surface mounting to a circuit board. The insulating housing comprises at least one alignment rib extending on an exterior surface thereof. The contacts are formed to abut the alignment rib, thereby ensuring coplanarity of the contacts for surface mounting to a circuit board.

  • Patent number: 6659783
Abstract: Electrical connectors (40, 104) including contact terminals that can be unmated without previously disconnecting power include main contacts (12, 112) and auxiliary contacts (16, 130) that are shunted by a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) resistor (6, 140) located between the main and auxiliary contact. The main contact (12, 112) will be disconnected first and the auxiliary contact (16, 130) can be longer than the main contact (12, 112). Arcing will not occur at the mating end of the main contact (12, 112), because the current will be shunted to the still connected longer auxiliary contact (16, 130). I2R heating will increase the resistance in the PTC resistor (6, 140), so when the auxiliary contact (16, 130) is disconnected, current will be below the arcing threshold.

Multiple latches 54A, B and 60A, B or 180 and 196 permit only discontinuous mating of electrical connectors, so that the connectors can be disconnected without arcing for a range of currents.

  • Patent number: 6377150
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for facilitating heat dissipation in an electrical device hat includes a core structure traversing a substrate when the core structure is in an installed orientation. The apparatus comprises: (a) at least one aperture through the substrate for accommodating traversing by the core structure; each respective aperture has periphery defined by a respective circumjacent face extending a height substantially equal with the substrate thickness; (b) a layer of thermally conductive material situated discontinuously on the circumjacent face of at least one respective aperture. The respective aperture is configured to establish a thermally conductive engagement with at least one facing portion of the core structure traversing the respective aperture in the installed orientation.

  • Patent number: 6254421
Abstract: Connector assembly (10) includes a wire carrier section 14 pivotably mounted to a housing (12) and adapted to be mounted directly to a circuit board without separate fasteners to terminate a discrete wire (180) to a contact (24) that is electrically connected to the board. A wire end (182) is inserted into a respective passageway (16,18) of the wire carrier 14, and the wire carrier section (14) is pivoted toward housing (12) pressing the wire into a slot of an IDC section (26) of the contact. The compact profile occupies minimal board real estate.

  • Patent number: 5941129
Abstract: A clamp for capturing an adjusted position of a motor vehicle steering column including a stationary bracket having planar sides on opposite sides of the steering column, vertical slots in the planar sides of the stationary bracket, and a rotatably immobilized bolt spanning the planar sides of the stationary bracket through the vertical slots. A primary nut includes a frustoconical shoulder and a tubular boss. The primary nut is screwed onto the bolt on one side of the stationary bracket and cooperates with a head of the bolt on the other side of the stationary bracket in squeezing together the planar sides of the stationary bracket. A plastic operating lever of the clamp has a lateral bore around the tubular boss on the primary nut and a frustoconical cavity which faces the frustoconical shoulder on the primary nut.

  • Patent number: 5727650
Abstract: A scaffold support comprises a beam fabricated in the form of a rectangular steel tube having width less than its height, and a pair of legs each fabricated in the form of a rectangular steel tube. The legs are welded to opposite sides of the beam so as to diverge from one another at an acute angel and so as to angle outward and downward from the beam at an acute angle from the vertical when the beam is oriented horizontally. An angle bar welded to each leg and extending between the legs to stabilize the legs and to provide a step. A steel scaffolding retainer welded to an outer end of the beam and extended above a top edge of said the so as to prevent scaffolding from moving beyond the outer end, and a steel mounting plate is welded to an inner end of the beam so as to provide a bearing surface for the inner end.
