One exemplary system receives cumulative or aggregate energy usage for a building or other structure including a set of two or more appliances having different load ratings. Based on the aggregate energy usage and predefined usage profiles for the appliances, the exemplary system estimates individual energy usage of the appliances. In one embodiment, the system estimates individual energy usage of the appliances using a Bayesian estimator and displays the usage estimates, referred to as virtual submeter readings, on a graphical user interface.
