  • Patent number: 8929880
Abstract: User equipment (UE), referred to herein as an interfering UE (130), can be detected that is proximate to a low-power cell (120), such as a micro-cell, pico-cell, femto-cell, a relay, or the like. The interfering UE (130) can be transmitting to the base station (110) at a power level that is producing high interference affecting uplink performance between a different UE and the low-power cell (120). A power adjustment message (140) can be generated at the base station (110). The power adjustment message (140) can be conveyed (156) from the base station (110) to the interfering UE (130). The power level adjustment message (130) can cause the interfering UE (130) to lower its transmission power (164), which reduces the high interference, thereby improving uplink performance between the different UE and the low-power cell (120).

  • Patent number: 8892113
Abstract: A method for coordinating spectrum evacuation is described which is useful for spectrum sharing, authorized/licensed shared access, secondary access, dynamic spectrum access, cognitive radio, general authorized access, etc. whereby access to a spectrum can be increased via buying usage right from a higher priority, primary or incumbent user, and/or via opportunistic access to unoccupied/unused spectrum. Enabling efficient spectrum evacuation guarantees limited impact to system performance while ensuring that the other user gets the spectrum back when needed. The method includes selecting a first subset of UEs for transitioning from a first bandwidth to a second bandwidth. During a first time period, the method includes, for each UE in the first subset, instructing the UE to transition using dedicated signaling. Later, during a second time period, the method includes instructing a second subset of UEs to transition using broadcast signaling. Apparatus and computer readable media are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8867454
Abstract: A method of allocating resources and signatures of a random access resource (RACH) (200) that includes dedicated (202) and non-dedicated (204) resources or sub-resources is disclosed. The network device determines if the dedicated resource is available for allocation. If the dedicated resource is available, the network device allocates the dedicated resource. If the dedicated resource is blocked, the network device allocates one of the non-dedicated resources. A message can be sent that indicates that allocated non-dedicated resource is being allocated as a dedicated resource.

  • Patent number: 8824404
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software related product (e.g., a computer readable memory) for using (or reusing) unused frequency resources/channels in a legacy radio access technology system (a first radio access technology system) such as GSM as additional/reused resources for a future/advanced radio access technology systems (a second radio access technology system) such as LTE wireless system. In one embodiment, the extension carrier may be used to simultaneously deploy/assign, e.g., LTE transmission in the same frequency band as the legacy radio access technology system such as GSM with LTE transmission occupying empty GSM time plus frequency slots. • Patent number: 8798021
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software related product (e.g., a computer readable memory) for network management through a hierarchical architecture with a control functionality of a network server (e.g., C-SON) in relationship to clusters comprising eNBs (access points), and for implementing coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission and reception in conjunction with inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC) in wireless networks such as LTE wireless networks. In particular, embodiments of the invention describe control and coordination mechanisms among the network elements for different network architectures and use-case scenarios. Such mechanisms may be managed by a centralized self-organizing network controller such as C-SON and hierarchically via localized controllers (such as cluster coordinators) residing in macro eNBs depending on system architectural constraints and network state.

  • Publication number: 20140148177
Abstract: Various communication systems may benefit from network coordination. For example, a system of the long term evolution (LTE) of the third generation partnership project (3GPP) that utilizes device-to-device communication may benefit from various methods, devices, and systems for network-coordinated device-to-device communication. For example, a method may include determining a penalty for using a subframe for device-to-device communication based on radio conditions. The method may also include applying the penalty in selecting radio resources for a user equipment for device-to-device communication.

  • Patent number: 8711789
Abstract: A base station employs control signaling for contention-based uplink access from user equipment devices to the base station. Contention-based access configuration is performed via physical downlink control channel signaling. Configuration data sent to the user equipment devices identifies multiple contention-based access zones, along with minimum power headroom values for each contention-based access zone. A probability factor may be used to lower collision possibility by influencing whether the user equipment devices perform contention-based uplink access.

  • Publication number: 20140016526
Abstract: Systems and techniques are described for scheduling communication by half-duplex devices. One or more half-duplex devices informs a base station that it is capable only of half-duplex operation. For each such device, the base station configures a transmit/receive pattern comprising sequences of uplink and downlink subframes and applies the pattern to the device. The half-duplex device may receive during a downlink subframe and may transmit during an uplink subframe. Uplink and downlink subframes within a pattern are separated by an offset based at least in part on a number of hybrid automatic repeat request processes.
