  • Publication number: 20120116141
Abstract: The conversion and run length for oligomerisation of olefins over a molecular sieve catalyst in a tubular reactor is improved by controlling the peak temperature to not exceed 50 degrees C. above the temperature of the temperature control fluid exiting the shell side outlet of the reactor. A tubular reactor containing molecular sieve catalyst is provided with a multipoint thermocouple in at least one tube, and optionally with a bottom design adapted for fast unloading of the molecular sieve catalyst from the tubular reactor.

  • Publication number: 20070293646
Abstract: Esters of cyclohexane polycarboxylic acids are used as plasticisers for polyvinyl chloride to enable products with comparable mechanical properties to be obtained using less polyvinyl chloride. Use of these esters also produces formulations with increased stability to ultra-violet light, improved low temperature properties, lower viscosity and improved processability as well as reduced smoke on burning. The esters of cyclohexane polycarboxylic acids may be used alone or in admixture with other plasticisers when the esters of cyclohexane polycarboxylic acids may act as viscosity depressants. Fast fusing plasticisers may also be included. The formulations are particularly useful in the production of a range of goods from semi-rigid to highly flexible materials and are particularly useful in the production of medical materials such as blood bags and tubing.

  • Publication number: 20070282132
Abstract: The gas cycle in a high pressure hydroformylation reaction using a series of at least two reactors is controlled to optimise yield, conversion and selectivity and to control reaction temperature. The control is achieved through balancing fresh gases and recycle gases in each of the reactors and as an optional feature the use of hydrogen off gases from the downstream hydrogenation used in the conversion of the hydroformylation reaction product to product alcohols.

  • Publication number: 20070282134
Abstract: Increasing the propylene content of the propylene feed delivered to a continuous hydroformylation process from the 95 mole % maximum level that is usual in typical chemical grade propylene to at least 97 mole %, for example to the 97.5% level obtainable from the conversion of oxygenates to olefins or the 99.5% level of polymer grade propylene, enables adjustments to be made in the syngas feed to the process. This leads to surprising improvements in hydroformylation product yield, in reactor capacity utilization and in the reduction of amounts of waste gases.

  • Publication number: 20070235687
Abstract: Mixtures of C8-10 primary alcohols, preferably C9 alcohol rich, comprise from 15 to 70 wt. % unbranched molecules, the balance being branched molecules having an average branchiness of at most 2.00 branches per molecule, at least 80% of the ranches being methyl branches and at least 50% of the branched molecules being mono-methyl branched. Plasticiser esters and surfactant derivatives derived from these alcohol mixtures are also provided. The alcohol mixtures are preferably produced by hydroformylation of octene rich streams formed by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis.

  • Publication number: 20070105999
Abstract: The liquid volume resistivity of plasticiser esters is improved by purifying the ester with an adsorbent having a pH in the range 6 to 11. It is preferable to use a mixture of a filtration aid and an adsorbent. A plasticiser having a desirable combination of high liquid volume resistivity, low amount of light ends and low carbonyl number is obtained.

  • Publication number: 20070106102
Abstract: High purity isobutylene streams are obtained by the hydroformylation of mixed butene streams containing butene-1 and isobutylene (and optionally butene-2) under conditions that hydroformylate primarily butene-1 to yield a mixture of valeraldehyde and isobutylene, which may be separated out as an enriched isobutylene stream and used in the production of methyl tertiary butyl ether, tertiary butyl alcohol, di-isobutylene or polyisobutylene.

  • Publication number: 20050215828
Abstract: The Oxo Process that recycles its cobalt primarily as cobalt salt is improved by concentration of the cobalt salt solution from the demetalling section and the addition of a separation step for organic acid and water. This allows for a higher reuse of acid in the process and thus a lower amount of acid in the waste water. Injecting a higher concentration of cobalt salt solution to the reaction section also reduces the requirement for cobalt source.

  • Publication number: 20050182282
Abstract: A method of making a higher olefin product from a C4+ fraction separated from the hydrocarbon product produced by an oxygenate to olefin reaction unit. The C4+ fraction primarily contains butenes which may be directed to a higher olefin reaction unit without removing isobutenes, butanes, and/or butadiene. The C4+ fraction is particularly well suited for the production of higher olefins because of its high olefin content, low branching number, and low contaminent levels. The invention is also directed to an olefin product composition that is produced by contacting the C4+ fraction with an oligomerization catalyst. The olefin composition is characterized by a relatively high octene content, and octene with a branching number less than 1.4.
