  • Publication number: 20070217919
Abstract: A peristaltic pump having an adaptive pulsation profile.
    Type: Application
    Filed: March 14, 2006
    Publication date: September 20, 2007
Inventors: Raphael Gordon, Kurt Leukanech, Michael Morgan, Gary Sorensen
  • Publication number: 20070107490
Abstract: A surgical system and cassette, the cassette having an identification method that is specific to the cassette. Suitable methods include bar coding or Radio Frequency Identification (“RFID”). Cassette information that may be encoded include features such as lot number and performance characteristics, such as pressure sensor calibration data, flow and pressure data and any other performance characteristics of the cassette captured during testing of the cassette at manufacture.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 17, 2005
    Publication date: May 17, 2007
Inventors: Alexander Artsyukhovich, Mikhail Boukhny, Raphael Gordon, Gary Sorensen, David Thoe, Ralph Svetic, Michael Yadlowsky
  • Publication number: 20070095143
Abstract: A pressure sensing chamber having a tubing extension with a reduced diameter portion extending through the chamber. The tubing contains a plurality of ports so as to allow the purging of air from the chamber, but the ports are sized so that bubbles entering the tubing cannot easily flow into the chamber. The reduced diameter portion creates a pressure differential between the holes. This differential pressure creates flow through the chamber under high liquid flow and turbulent liquid flow events.
    Type: Application
    Filed: October 27, 2005
    Publication date: May 3, 2007
Inventors: Raphael Gordon, Michael Morgan, Gary Sorensen
  • Publication number: 20070010730
Abstract: A method for direct indication of the IOP level without requiring an additional pressure transducer being introduced into the irrigation path. The method of the present invention estimates resistance ratio for a particular setup, and thus does not assume a typical value; the estimation is performed in a pre-operational configuration that is the closest possible to the surgical configuration.
    Type: Application
    Filed: June 28, 2005
    Publication date: January 11, 2007
    Inventor: Raphael Gordon
  • Patent number: 6962488
Abstract: A cassette having a molded flow channel contained on an elastomeric sheet that is bonded or mechanically attached to a rigid substrate. The flow channel projects outwardly from the exterior of the cassette so that a peristaltic pump having pump head rollers mounted radially from the axis of rotation of the pump motor compress the elastomeric flow channels against the rigid substrate during operation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 4, 2003
Date of Patent: November 8, 2005
    Assignee: Alcon, Inc.
Inventors: Sherman G. Davis, Raphael Gordon, Valentine P. Injev, Kurt D. Leukanech, Michael D. Morgan, Mel M. Oliveira, Gary P. Sorensen, Daniel J. Wilson
  • Publication number: 20050228425
Abstract: A surgical system that is able to sense the onset of an occlusion or other surgical event as well as the instant an occlusion breaks. To help avoid overheating of the tip, the system determines an approximate temperature of the eye using an irrigation flow rate and reduces the power to the handpiece automatically if an overheating situation is predicted. Alternatively or in addition, the system monitors the power drawn by the handpiece, which is indicative of the cutting load on the tip, and automatically adjusts the power or stroke of the tip to compensate for increased loads on the tip.
    Type: Application
    Filed: February 28, 2005
    Publication date: October 13, 2005
Inventors: Mikhail Boukhny, Raphael Gordon, Michael Morgan, Ann Yadlowsky

  • Publication number: 20050209560
Abstract: A surgical system that is able to sense the onset of an occlusion or other surgical event as well as when an occlusion breaks. To help avoid overheating of the tip, the system of the present invention predicts the temperature of the eye using irrigation flow rate and reduces the power to the handpiece automatically if an overheating situation is predicted. Alternatively or in addition, the system of the present invention monitors the power drawn by the handpiece, which is indicative of the cutting load on the tip, and automatically adjusts the power or stroke of the tip to compensate for increased loads on the tip.
