  • Patent number: 8356538
Abstract: There is disclosed a munition handling apparatus where the conventional ram is replaced with a high pressure fluid actuation. For this the apparatus is provided with a container that incorporates a piston which slides along the container to urge the munition out as the fluid pressure is applied.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 2009
Date of Patent: January 22, 2013
    Assignee: BAE SYSTEMS plc
    Inventor: Raphael Joseph Francis Chetcuti
  • Patent number: 8127684
Abstract: The following invention relates to a mount for holding a charge in a breech. The mount attaches, or is integral to, a charge and is provided with a dilation means which rests within a breech of a gun to prevent the charge from sliding back out of the breech when the gun is held at a high angle. The dilation means is fabricated from a material which, when the gun is fired, combusts to leave negligible debris in the breech.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 2008
Date of Patent: March 6, 2012
    Assignee: BAE Systems plc
Inventors: John Taylor, Raphael Joseph Francis Chetcuti, Charles Thomas Marshall, Colin Carson MacKenzie
  • Patent number: 8100255
Abstract: There is disclosed a munition container that stores a munition in a sealed environment such that the seal need not be broken until the munition is ejected from the container into the breech of a gun. The benefits of this are that the munition is protected from the external environment for longer and that the loading operation is accelerated. To facilitate this, the container is provided with a lid & piston which forms part of the seal. The piston may, upon urging by e.g. a ram, slide within the container and outwards into the aligned breech.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: January 24, 2012
    Assignee: BAE Systems plc
Inventors: Paul Edward Smith, Raphael Joseph Francis Chetcuti
