  • Publication number: 20240181723
Abstract: A method for forming a structural tile for use in a composite panel includes providing a base plate of a compression mold assembly. The method also includes placing a grid structure mold of the compression mold assembly atop the base plate. The grid structure mold defines a cavity having a desired shape for a grid structure. Further, the method includes filling the cavity of the grid structure mold with a plurality of fragments of recycled fiber reinforced polymer material. Moreover, the method includes placing a cover plate of the compression mold assembly atop the grid structure mold to apply pressure to the grid structure mold. The method also includes applying heat to the cover plate to heat the plurality of fragments of recycled fiber reinforced polymer material such that the recycled fiber reinforced polymer material melts within the cavity. In addition, the method includes allowing the melted recycled fiber reinforced polymer material to cure to form the structural tile.

  • Publication number: 20230234313
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to an apparatus for manufacturing a composite component. The apparatus includes a mold onto which the composite component is formed. The mold is disposed within a grid defined by a first axis and a second axis. The apparatus further includes a first frame assembly disposed above the mold, and a plurality of printheads coupled to the first frame assembly within the grid in an adjacent arrangement along the first axis. At least one of the mold or the plurality of printheads is moveable along the first axis, the second axis, or both. At least one of the printheads of the plurality of printheads is moveable independently of one another along a third axis.

  • Publication number: 20230226788
Abstract: In an aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a composite structure. The composite structure includes a three-dimensional (3-D) grid structure and at least one monolithic skin layer at least partially enveloping and securing the grid structure. As such, the grid structure is configured to stabilize the composite structure under at least one of: static local buckling and dynamic global buckling.

  • Patent number: 10697426
Abstract: An aerodynamic device is described for mounting to an outer surface of a wind turbine blade. The aerodynamic device includes a baseplate having an inner surface defining a mounting region and a sealing region at least partially surrounds the mounting region. The mounting region is bonded to the outer surface of the blade by an adhesive. A seal is provided between the sealing region of the baseplate and the outer surface of the blade. The seal at least partially surrounds the mounting region. A barrier is provided between the seal and the adhesive. The barrier is arranged substantially to prevent contact between the seal and the adhesive.
