Abstract: In a method for detecting anomalies in a sensor-networked environment, packages of data are received from a plurality of sensors located in the environment. At least one candidate problem location in the environment is identified based upon data contained in the packages. A principal components analysis is performed on the data collected from sensors associated with the identified at least one candidate problem location to identify a number of hidden variables and the number of hidden variables are analyzed to detect anomalies in the environment. In addition, detected anomalies are outputted. An analyzer for performing the method is provided.

  • Patent number: 7799733
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for making activated carbon having BET surface area up to 2000 m2/g with pore diameter in the range 17-21 ? suitable for fabricating fuel cell and ultracapacitor electrode from coconut shell by treating carbon granules obtained from coconut shells with chemical activating agents like zinc chloride or potassium hydroxide at the room temperature range 500-800° C. in a dynamic flow of gases like N2 or CO2 for 6-24 h followed by a specific cooling pattern to room temperature. Use of such activated carbon enables the fabrication of high performance ultracapacitor electrodes in H2SO4 as exemplified by capacitance values like 180 F/g without the use of any normal metal additives such as RuO2 or IrO2.

  • Publication number: 20100231594
Abstract: To construct at least one cluster of data records of a scatter plot, cells representing the data records are placed in a visualization screen according to values of a first attribute and a second attribute of the data records. Visual indicators are assigned to the cells according to values of a third attribute of the data records. In response to detecting data records having a particular pair of first attribute and second attribute values, cells representing the data records having the particular pair of first attribute and second attribute values are placed in nearby positions according to similarity of values of the third attribute to form the at least one cluster of cells having similar visual indicators.

  • Publication number: 20100224354
Abstract: To deposit carbon nanotubes onto a substrate, an at least partially porous film is prepared so that a surface of the film has a layer of carbon nanotubes thereon. The film is positioned in relation to a surface of the substrate such that the surface of the film having the layer of carbon nanotubes is brought into contact with the surface of the substrate. Pressure is applied to the film to attach the film, including the layer of carbon nanotubes, to the surface of the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20100229187
Abstract: A method for detecting events based upon attributes read by a plurality of entities includes receiving data pertaining to the read attributes from the plurality of entities, performing a correlation analysis on the data to identify a number of independent variables existing among the read attributes for each of a plurality of groupings of the plurality of entities in a first hierarchical level of the plurality of hierarchical levels, comparing the identified number of independent variables with a nominal number of independent variables for each of the plurality of groupings in the first hierarchical level, and determining that an event has been detected in response to the identified number of independent variables falling outside of a predetermined value of the nominal number of independent variables for a particular grouping in the first hierarchical level.

  • Patent number: 5641817
Abstract: This invention relates to the discovery of organometallic ceramic precursor binders used to fabricate shaped bodies by different techniques. Exemplary shape making techniques which utilize hardenable, liquid, organometallic, ceramic precursor binders include the fabrication of negatives of parts to be made (e.g., sand molds and sand cores for metalcasting, etc.), as well as utilizing ceramic precursor binders to make shapes directly (e.g., brake shoes, brake pads, clutch parts, grinding wheels, polymer concrete, refractory patches and liners, etc.). In a preferred embodiment, this invention relates to thermosettable, liquid ceramic precursors which provide suitable-strength sand molds and sand cores at very low binder levels and which, upon exposure to molten metalcasting exhibit low emissions toxicity as a result of their high char yields of ceramic upon exposure to heat. Another preferred embodiment of the invention involves the fabrication of preforms used in the formation of composite articles.
