  • Patent number: 9615072
Abstract: An electronic device disclosed herein includes an adaptive comb to generate a combed video image from an image signal using frame combing or field combing, and a controller. The controller includes a field motion detector to determine a field motion value for a region as a function of field motion between adjacent fields of the image signal, and controller logic to generate a control signal to cause the adaptive comb to selectively comb the region using the frame combing or the field combing based upon the field motion value. The control signal causes the adaptive comb to process the region using frame combing when the field motion value is less than a first motion threshold value, process the region using field combing when the field motion value is indicative of motion, greater than the first motion threshold value, and less than a second motion threshold value.

  • Patent number: 9247245
Abstract: An adaptive temporal motion filter for a video decoder system operates in an infinite impulse response (IIR), a max or a bypass mode. The adaptive temporal motion filter includes an adaptive time constant control module and a filter gain module. A gain factor of the filter gain module is varied by the adaptive time constant control module for every pixel in a current composite video signal. The adaptive time constant control module selects a variable gain for the filter gain module based on the motion magnitude, motion polarity and chroma luma status of the pixel.

  • Patent number: 7535515
Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for distinguishing false motion from true motion, in a video signal that is received by a television set. The video signal is received at the television set. The video signal includes a luma component and a chroma component. A motion detection operation is performed for each of the chroma component and the luma component in several frequency regions of the received video signal. Each frequency region has a unique, adjustable threshold value for distinguishing false motion from true motion, that is dynamically adjustable based on the incoming video signal, and as a result the motion detection accuracy is improved and image artifacts are minimized in an image that is described by the video signal and is to be displayed on the television set.

  • Patent number: 7324163
Abstract: An apparatus comprising a video decoder configured to receive a composite video signal modulated on a sub-carrier signal and having a luma component and a chroma component, the video decoder configured to perform a motion detection operation on the luma component and the chroma component in a plurality of frequency regions respectively. The video decoder includes variable threshold logic, coupled to the video decoder, and configured to provide a unique threshold value to the video decoder for each of the plurality of frequency regions respectively. The apparatus also includes a sub-carrier detection logic, coupled to the variable threshold logic, and configured to detect the sub-carrier signal by checking both spatial and temporal characteristics of the sub-carrier detection logic.
