  • Publication number: 20050111487
Abstract: A method of estimating bandwidth capacity, available bandwidth and utilization along a path in an IP network is disclosed. ICMP time-stamp requests are sent from a source host on the edge or inside the network to all routers on the end-to-end path to a desired destination. Differences between time-stamp values are used as indicators of QoS service at each router. The collected measurements are then processed at the sending host to infer QoS parameters in terms of path capacity in bit/sec, available bandwidth in bits/sec, individual link utilization and congestion at each router. These parameters can be combined to infer the QoS service in terms of bandwidth on the end-to-end path.

  • Publication number: 20050041675
Abstract: Cryptographically Protected Prefixes (“CPPs”) are used to create IP addresses, preventing any correlation between a CPP IP address and a host's geographic location. An IP address is subdivided into address prefixes of multiple segments. Each segment is encrypted with a cryptographic key known only to a subset of routers in the access network domain (or Privacy Domain). Therefore, each router obtains the information it needs to forward a packet of information, but not any additional information.

  • Publication number: 20040160979
Abstract: A coding system and method for a terminal including a multi-rate codec is disclosed. The terminal includes a multi-rate adaptive coder that is capable of transmitting a continuous voice stream transmission at a source code bit rate and a channel code bit rate. A quality of service probing module probes an end-to-end network path of the continuous voice stream transmission to obtain at least one quality of service parameter. A quality of service management module determines at least one constraint associated with the continuous voice stream transmission. An adaptive bit rate algorithm module dynamically adjusts the source code bit rate and the channel code bit rate as a function of the quality of service parameter and the constraint to obtain a maximum value of perceived user performance during the continuous voice stream transmission.

  • Patent number: 6761838
Abstract: Partial oxidation of hydrocarbons to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide is carried out by a cyclical process, which includes (a) contacting an oxygen ion conducting ceramic with air at a pressure between about 1 and 50 bara in a reactor, wherein oxygen from the air reacts with the ceramic, thereby producing an oxygen-enriched ceramic, and (b) contacting the hot, oxygen-enriched ceramic with hydrocarbon gas and optionally steam in the reactor. During the partial oxidation reaction phase of the process, the oxygen-enriched ceramic reacts with the hydrocarbon, thereby producing the desired gas products and regenerating the oxygen ion conducting ceramic for the next cycle of the process.

  • Publication number: 20040122976
Abstract: Integrated mobility management mechanisms monitor a mobile host's degree of mobility and the applications it executes. Mobile hosts move between wireless-access, micro-mobility domains interconnected through a backbone network. While the mobile host is stationary, MIP-LR and SIP systems operate to ensure TCP and RTP/UDP packets, respectively, traveling to/from the mobile host are properly routed through the backbone to the host's current domain. An MMP system routes packets through this domain. As the host moves within a domain, the MMP system updates the domain routing to the mobile host's new location. As the mobile host moves between domains, the host obtains a new IP address and the MMP system establishes routing within the new domain to the mobile host's new location. In addition, the MIP-LR and SIP systems activate to ensure the TCP and RTP/UDP packets, respectively, are automatically re-routed through the backbone to the new domain.
