  • Patent number: 8536239
Abstract: Partial oxidation of crumb rubber derived from environmental hazardous waste tires yields surface treated crumb rubber which are used as blending stocks for making rubberized concrete with substantially improved mechanical strength as compared to the conventional rubberized concrete. The chemically more active rubber surface becomes hydrophilic, so it interacts with the hydrophilic surface of surrounding cement matrix much stronger. The mechanically improved rubberized concrete is more versatile than conventional rubberized concrete.

  • Publication number: 20130073758
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for dynamically adjusting the amount of power (or current) distributed to one or more connected devices via electrical interfaces. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a first module adapted to detect current drawn by a first set of ports, and a second module adapted to adjust the current provided to a second set of ports based on the detected current. The second module is also optionally adapted to distribute unreserved current among the devices according to an allocation protocol. In the exemplary context of a plurality of interconnected serial bus devices, the invention enables a device to draw more current than that required to be reserved for that device (such as to comply with a specification such as USB), yet without increasing the total amount of power which must be dedicated to the serial ports as a whole. Power supply efficiency may also be advantageously optimized.

  • Patent number: 8338506
Abstract: Partial oxidation of crumb rubber derived from environmental hazardous waste tires yields surface treated crumb rubber and a gas condensate which are used as blending stocks for making rubberized concrete with substantially improved mechanical strength as compared to the conventional rubberized concrete. The chemically more active rubber surface becomes hydrophilic, so it interacts with the hydrophilic surface of surrounding cement matrix much stronger. The gas condensate co-produced in the partial oxidation reactor consists of mainly active sulfur oxides (R—SOx—R) and serves as an excellent bonding agent to further enhance the bonding strength between the partially oxidized rubber particles and the cement mixes. The mechanically improved rubberized concrete is more versatile than conventional rubberized concrete.

  • Publication number: 20110171494
Abstract: The present invention discloses a discontinuous islanded ferromagnetic recording film with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The discontinuous islanded ferromagnetic recording film includes a substrate and a ferromagnetic layer. The ferromagnetic layer is formed on the substrate and annealed by a high-temperature vacuum annealing process. After annealing, a surface energy difference existed between the ferromagnetic layer and the substrate turns the ferromagnetic layer into well-separated and discontinuous islanded ferromagnetic particles. Each islanded ferromagnetic particle is thought of a single magnetic domain, which is beneficial to achieve a discontinuous islanded ferromagnetic recording film with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.

  • Publication number: 20110104517
Abstract: The present invention discloses a single-layered recording film with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The single-layered recording film includes a substrate and a ferromagnetic layer. The ferromagnetic layer is formed on the substrate and annealed by a rapid thermal annealing process. After annealing, the average grain size of the single-layered recording film is close to the film thickness of ferromagnetic layer, which is beneficial to achieve a single-layered recording film with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.

  • Patent number: 7838135
Abstract: A novel heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) medium and the fabrication method therefor are provided. The exchange coupling effect occurring at the interface of FePt/CoTb double layers is adopted, and thus the resulting magnetic flux would be sufficient enough to be detected and readout under the room temperature. The provided HAMR medium exhibits a relatively high saturation magnetization and perpendicular coercivity, and thus possesses a great potential for the ultra-high density recording application.

  • Patent number: 7706299
Abstract: A technique for estimating the upstream bandwidth for a modem is provided. Various-sized packets are sent on roundtrip journeys through the modem. The roundtrip times for the various-sized packets are compared to provide an estimate of the modem's upstream bandwidth. Alternatively, a block file may be transmitted through the modem to a TFTP server. The TFTP server reports the time needed to complete the file transfer. Based upon the block file transmission start time and the completion time, an upstream bandwidth estimate may be performed. Given the upstream bandwidth estimation, non-VoIP upstream data traffic may be limited accordingly to provide a desired QoS to VoIP calls being supported by the modem.
