    Abstract: A method for recovering a recombinant protein from a protein solution containing high molecular weight containing proteins by directly adding amine or quaternary ammonium compounds to the solution in amounts sufficient to selectively precipitate the high molecular weight protein contaminants.The high molecular weight precipitates are removed and the solution is further processed to remove low molecular weight contaminating proteins and other non-protein contaminants. The recombinant protein is subsequently recovered and further processed to produce a protein composition suitable for its intended use.

    Abstract: High purity fused silica particles are made by heating relatively low density silica flour in a high temperature flame. The silica flour feed rate, flame temperature, and collection zone temperature are adjusted to produce an aggregate of surface-bonded fused silica particles. The aggregate is shaped like a honeycomb and can be ground autogenously without introducing impurities into the final product.

    Abstract: A method of decolorizing wet process phosphoric acid containing organic color-imparting impurities is provided. The process includes treating the acid with a strong oxidant at a temperature in the range of about 50.degree. to about 150.degree. C. by slowly adding the oxidant to the acid over a period of time of at least about 3 hours. The oxidized acid then is contacted with a regenerable activated carbon, preferably in a packed column, in order to adsorb the oxidized color-imparting impurities.

    Abstract: Gas produced from coal and containing CH.sub.4, CO, CO.sub.2, H.sub.2 and H.sub.2 S is contacted with CO.sub.2 scrub liquid to form (1) a liquid CO.sub.2 stream containing as solutes CH.sub.4, H.sub.2 S and minor portions of the CO and H.sub.2, and (2) a gas stream containing CO.sub.2 and major portions of the CO and H.sub.2, the CO and H.sub.2 in this stream being recycled to the means which produces gas from coal, and CO.sub.2 in the stream being recycled to the scrub liquid. The solute-bearing liquid CO.sub.2 stream is fractionated into (1) a liquid CO.sub.2 stream containing CH.sub.4 and H.sub.2 S, and (2) a H.sub.2 /CO gas stream which is recycled into contact with the scrub liquid. The last-mentioned liquid CO.sub.2 stream is fractionated into (1) a CH.sub.4 /CO.sub.2 gas stream the CO.sub.2 of which is recycled to the scrub liquid, and (2) a liquid CO.sub.2 stream containing H.sub.2 S, and CO.sub.2 of this stream is also recycled to the scrub liquid.
