Publication number: 20240318910Abstract: A system and method for enhancing propane recovery in a GSP system operated in an ethane rejection mode using an add-on system comprising a heat exchanger and a condenser and optionally a reflux column having 0-5 theoretical stages. An overhead stream from a GSP fractionation column and a subcooled expanded GSP stream are diverted from the typical GSP process for processing in the add-on system to provide an additional reflux stream that increases the amount of ethane and propane that feeds into a top level of the GSP fractionation column. In ethane rejection mode, the add-on system results in an NGL product stream preferably comprising less than 6% of the ethane and at least 97% of the propane from the GSP feed stream.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2023Publication date: September 26, 2024Inventor: Rayburn C. Patent number: 11745136Abstract: A system and method for simultaneously removing water and acid gases from methane in a single process without requiring dehydration prior to acid gas removal. A feed stream comprising these components and little or no hydrocarbons heavier than methane is separated in a series of separators, including an absorber column using methanol as an absorber. A treated methane stream comprising at least 90%, more preferably at least 95%, most preferably at least 99%, of the methane from the feed stream and an acid gas waste stream comprising less than 10%, more preferably less than 5%, most preferably less than 1%, of the methane from the feed stream are produced. Using methanol as a physical solvent allows removal of water and acids gases in a single step using substantially less energy than conventional separation methods. The system and method are particularly useful in treating landfill gas feed streams.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2020Date of Patent: September 5, 2023Assignee: BCCK Holding CompanyInventor: Rayburn C. Publication number: 20230235955Abstract: A system and method for removing nitrogen from natural gas using two fractionating columns, that may be stacked, and a plurality of separators and heat exchangers, with horsepower requirements that are 50-80% of requirements for prior art systems. The fractionating columns operate at different pressures. A feed stream is separated with a vapor portion feeding the first column to produce a first column bottoms stream that is split into multiple portions at different pressures and first column overhead stream that is split or separated into two portions at least one of which is subcooled prior to feeding the top of the second column. Optional heat exchange between first column and second column streams provides first column reflux and reboil heat for a second column ascending vapor stream. Three sales gas streams are produced, each at a different pressure.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2023Publication date: July 27, 2023Inventor: Rayburn C. Butts

Patent number: 11561043Abstract: A system and method for producing an LNG product stream to provide fuel to generators, as an alternative to diesel, to power drilling and other equipment. Using sales gas from a natural gas/NGL plant containing less than 95% methane as a feed stream, production of LNG having 95% or more methane in quantities of 100,000 GPD or more LNG product are achievable with the system and method. The system and method preferably combine use of strategic heat exchange between the feed and a nitrogen-methane flash vapor stream and other streams within the LNG processing system without requiring heat exchange with process streams in the natural gas/NGL plant and a rectifier column that uses an internal knockback condenser and does not require a reboiler to remove heavier components from the sales gas feed.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2019Date of Patent: January 24, 2023Assignee: BCCK Holding CompanyInventor: Rayburn C. Patent number: 11125497Abstract: A system and method for removing nitrogen and producing a high pressure methane product stream and an NGL product stream from natural gas feed streams where at least 90%, and preferably at least 95%, of the ethane in the feed stream is recovered in the NGL product stream. The system and method of the invention are particularly suitable for use with feed streams in excess of 5 MMSCFD and up to 300 MMSCFD and containing around 5% to 80% nitrogen. Patent number: 11015865Abstract: A system and method for producing an NGL product stream in either an ethane retention or rejection mode. Rejection modes include (a) two heat exchange stages between a feed stream and first separator bottoms stream and cooling a side stream withdrawn from a fractionation tower through heat exchange with both the fractionation tower and second separator overhead streams; or (b) warming the first separator bottoms stream and fractionation overhead stream through heat exchange with the side stream prior to heat exchange with the feed stream, to achieve 4-15% ethane recovery and 97%+ propane recovery.
