  • Patent number: 9278584
Abstract: An all-weather tire includes features that enhance safety and usability in a variety of driving conditions as well as some manufacturing processes that may be used during the production and provides an all-weather tire having selectively deployable and retractable studs for greater traction when needed. The tire includes a toroidal shell enclosing an air-filled chamber and a plurality of stud actuation chambers contained within the shell for selectively deploying studs to extend past the tire's outer radial surface for engaging a roadway or surface. The studs may be retracted when no longer needed. A mechanical pump assembly or plurality of such assemblies powered by compression of the tire engaging the roadway may be used as a power source for generating pneumatic pressure and an internal valve assembly or assemblies may be used to route the pneumatic pressure appropriately. The pump and valve assemblies may be controlled either mechanically or electrically.

  • Patent number: 6652429
Abstract: An exercising machine wherein a cable pull is resisted by spring deflection. The cable is connected to a lift arm that is pivotally fixed and carries a lift roller. The lift roller abuts a pivotally mounted bar and urges pivotal movement of the bar opposed by a spring member. The connection of the cable to the pivotal lift arm, the position of the lift roller relative to the lift arm pivot, the engagement of the roller with the pivotal bar and the engagement of the spring member with the pivotal bar all involving lever advantages that can be manipulated to achieve varying shapes of resistance of the cable pull as felt by the user.

  • Patent number: 6570501
Abstract: A hand gun case body that is fully enclosed except for a door opening including a hinged door that latches to the case to close the opening. A slide inside the case body slides into and out of a door opening and carries a hand gun that is accordingly transferred between positions of containment within the case body and accessibility outside the case body. A biasing member urges the slide to the accessibility position when the door is opened. The biasing member is remote from the hand gun and avoids interference with said accessibility. The latch is actuated by a personal feature recognition device, e.g., a fingerprint recognition device and upon presentation of said personal feature to said device, said door is unlatched and the hand gun is presented to an authorized user.

  • Patent number: 5934886
Abstract: A diaphragm pump is powered by fluctuating pressure in a pressurized conduit. A three way valve is cycled to alternately pressurize and vent the pump. A power diaphragm drives a piston having a skirt with a reduced end wall to displace a quantity of hydraulic fluid from a pump chamber to drive a pumping diaphragm. An inlet of the pump admits a quantity of fluid to be discharged via a pump outlet. A spring component biases the piston to return same upon venting of the pressurized conduit. The diaphragm pump is shown in a pumping system wherein a primary pump and an intermittently cycled three way valve operate the diaphragm pump to inject fluid into the output conduit from the primary pump.

  • Patent number: 5755540
Abstract: A vehicle transporter has an elongate vehicular frame with vehicle support members movable between different elevations relative to the frame. Respective telescopically-movable fluid power cylinder assemblies interconnect respective ones of the vehicle support members with the frame to selectively raise and lower the vehicle support members by telescopic movement of the cylinder assemblies. Each cylinder assembly has one or more respective locking members for preventing telescopic movement of the cylinder assembly in a lowering direction, to enable the cylinder assembly to support a respective vehicle support member independently of any fluid in the cylinder assembly. A remote control system is connected to each of the locking members to control its locked and unlocked positions. The locking members are movably mounted on a respective cylinder of each cylinder assembly.

  • Patent number: 5615840
Abstract: A fishing reel comprising a circumferential drag system including a drum structure within which an expansion member rests. The expansion member carries at its circumference an O-ring brought against the interior surface of the drum structure upon expansion of the expansion element. In this manner, controlled adjustment of the radially outward expansion element establishes a given magnitude drag coefficient for the drag system.

  • Patent number: 5370533
Abstract: An impression tray is provided with a dispersal member which receives impression material for delivery into the impression tray. A one-step method includes the provision of barriers on the impression tray to confine light bodied impression material in the tray during the delivery of the material into the tray and the taking of the impression. A two-step method entails the direct deposit of heavy bodied impression material into the impression tray and the taking of a preliminary impression. A jig for punching the preliminary impression confines the impression tray during the formation of passageways for later injected lighter impression material injected into the dispersal member and then to the impression tray. An air cylinder is controlled by an operator for selective discharge of impression material from tubular containers and into the dispersal member. A unitary impression tray is disclosed with a dispersion channel for directing impression material into place.

  • Patent number: 5263679
Abstract: A valve and actuator are disclosed with fluid flow through the valve controlled by a piston directly responsive to in line fluid pressure during both opening and closing movement. The actuator shifts a valve stem to open a poppet valve in the piston to admit in line pressure into a chamber to act on rearward surfaces of the piston to advance the piston into valve closing, seated contact with a valve seat. Initial closing movement of the piston is by the actuator with continued closing movement by in line fluid pressure. An additional valve on the stem controls communication of the chamber in which the piston is carried with an outlet to close the chamber for pressurization to effect forward seating of the piston. Valve opening movement of the actuator closes the piston mounted poppet valve and also vents the chamber to permit in line fluid pressure to shift the piston rearwardly to an open retracted position.

  • Patent number: 5177988
Abstract: A locking system for a dead bolt and slam bolt locking of a movable door to a stationary keeper comprises a lock housing defining a cylinder chamber having an opening alignable with a keeper recess in the closed position of the door. A spherical locking bolt is mounted on a piston which is slidably and sealably movable in the cylinder chamber between an inner non-locking position and an outer locking position. The interior of the cylinder chamber is filled with a non-compressible fluid by outward movement of the piston and a normally closed check valve prevents exhaust of such fluid to produce a dead lock conditon. The check valve is alternatively opened by a manual key or by remotely controlled energization of a solenoid.
