  • Publication number: 20130231621
Abstract: Under one aspect, an apparatus includes a primary dressing configured for application over a region of compromised skin and including fluid-absorbing material; and a secondary dressing configured for application over the primary dressing. The secondary dressing applies pressure to the primary dressing so as to maintain the primary dressing in place over the region of compromised skin and promote the flow of fluid from the region of compromised skin into the fluid-absorbing material, and allows moisture in the fluid to evaporate from the fluid-absorbing material. Under another aspect, a dressing includes a fabric layer sized to cover a region of compromised skin; a foam layer secured to the fabric layer and having an aperture defined therein sized to cover the region of compromised skin; and a biocompatible adhesive layer disposed on the foam layer. Methods of applying the dressing also are provided.

  • Patent number: 8105353
Abstract: The present invention includes a first and a second interlaced component, each having a permeable adhesive-backed wound edge pad for attachment to the skin of a patient adjacent to a laceration or incision to be closed. Each of the permeable wound edge pads is attached to an opposing tension adjusting pad that also has an adhesive backing. The wound edge pads are connected to the respective tension adjusting pads by elongate connecting elements that may be flat or tubular in shape. The present invention also includes an adhesive that may be applied in liquid form to the permeable wound edge pads. Adhesion of the adhesive on and within the permeable wound edge pads seals the wound site and adds structural rigidity to the interlaced components.

  • Patent number: 7563941
Abstract: Disclosed is a carrier-delivered dressing comprising a conformable film having first and second surfaces and a continuous outer perimeter. The conformable film includes a continuous strip of pressure-sensitive adhesive disposed on the first surface along a generally C-shaped first portion of the outer perimeter, and a second portion of the outer perimeter which is substantially adhesive-free. One or more release liners are provided which cover and protect the pressure-sensitive strip of adhesive prior to application. Alternative embodiments including a substantially continuous strip of pressure-sensitive adhesive around the continuous outer perimeter with one or more optionally removable release liners are also disclosed. Methods of use in which the dressings are applied in a shingled manner enable the convenient protection of long incisions or lacerations.
