Patent number: 8392457Abstract: A system and method are provided for forming a map database with attributed data which represents roadways attributed as no-outlet or circular segments. The method includes identifying a segment from a first node to a second node, where the second node is connected to an isolated portion of a road network. The method further includes storing a data attribute into the map database that represents the segment as a road that connects the road network at the first node to the isolated portion of the road network at the second node. The data attribute may represent the segment as a no-outlet segment or a circular segment. A no-outlet segment represents a roadway or portion of a roadway that terminates or returns back to the roadway or portion thereof. A circular segment represents a roadway or portion of a roadway that intersects with a geographic feature, such as a road, and where the roadway or portion thereof leads back to the same geographic feature.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2001Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: Navteq B.V.Inventors: Raymond Bender, Laurence P. Patent number: 8042757Abstract: A wire guiding device includes a base and a guide portion for streamlining the flow of coiled wire from a storage container. Side walls may be included to bridge the distance between the device and the storage container to prevent wire from rising upward around the outside of the wire guiding device. As the amount of wire in the bin decreases, the wire guiding device will float downward maintaining constant downward pressure on the coil of wire. Wire in the storage container will therefore be drawn out in a smooth manner limiting or substantially preventing tangles.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2010Date of Patent: October 25, 2011Assignee: Lincoln Global, Inc.Inventors: Raymond Bender, David Barton, Herbert Matthews

Patent number: 6609063Abstract: System and method are provided for route calculation for use with a navigation system and used with a map database with attributed no-outlet and circular segments. A route calculation program adapted to find at least one solution route, between a first location and a second location on a road network, identifies a segment with a first node and a second node in the road network. From an attribute stored in the map database, the program determines whether the first node is connected to the road network and the second node is connected to an isolated portion of the road network. Using the attribute, the route calculation program determines whether to explore the isolated portion of the road network. In some instances, the program refrains from exploring the segment leading into the isolated portion of the road network and the isolated portion of the road network itself.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2001Date of Patent: August 19, 2003Assignee: Navigation Technologies Corp.Inventors: Raymond Bender, Laurence P. Lehman, Derwin Chow

Patent number: 6582732Abstract: A wood treatment material having a synergistic combination of insecticides including boron-containing compounds and synthetic pyrethroids, is provided. This combination is shown to be especially effective in providing resistance to insect attack when wood is treated with this combination. Resistance to attack by Formosan termites, in particular, is provided, in a cost-effective manner. Also provided is wood treated by this combination, and a method of treatment for composite wood.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2000Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: Kop-Coat, Inc.Inventors: Raymond Bender, Alan S. Patent number: 6539302Abstract: A web-based traffic notification service permits end users to select travel routes and automatically receive notification of routes having the fastest travel times. The service can be provided by a website configured to display an interface that allows users to create accounts for storing personal travel information. The travel information includes origin, destination, way point, and departure time data for trips selected by the user. For each trip, alternative routes are designated. At or near the selected departure time of a trip, travel times for the alternative routes are computed using real-time traffic data. The user is then automatically notified of the route having the fastest travel time using an email or voice message. The service can be configured so that the user is notified only when the travel time of a user-defined preferred route is longer than a secondary alternative route.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2000Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Navigation Technologies CorporationInventors: Raymond Bender, Michael Brian Lane, Laurence Paul Lehman

Patent number: 4053330Abstract: A thermomechanical treatment to improve the fatigue strength of articles made from one of a class of alpha beta titanium alloys. The treatment involves heating the alloy into the beta field, hot deforming the alloy at a temperature within the beta field, rapidly quenching the alloy to room temperature to produce a hexagonal martensite structure and then tempering at an intermediate temperature so as to produce a structure in which discrete equiaxed beta phase particles are presented in an acicular alpha matrix. This structure is particularly resistant to the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1976Date of Patent: October 11, 1977Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventors: Robert Jacobi Henricks, Duane Louis Ruckle, Raymond Bender Slack
