  • Patent number: 8069863
Abstract: A hairdresser's masking aid allows for masking selected strands of hair from other strands of hair while the selected strands are treated. The masking aid comprising at least two panels of flexible sheet material which are capable of being hinged apart to receive the selected strands and subsequently brought together to envelop the selected strands. At least one of the panels comprises a substrate of a flexible and transparent plastics material laminated over at least part of its area to a metal foil substrate. The plastics substrate is laminated to the said metal foil substrate by a laminating wax so that the resultant laminated sheet is capable of being deadfolded in a similar way as non-laminated aluminum foil.

  • Publication number: 20060130867
Abstract: According to an aspect of the invention there is provided a hairdresser's masking aid (1) for masking selected strands of a head of hair from other strands of hair while the selected strands are treated, the masking aid comprising at least two panels (2, 3) of flexible sheet material which are capable of being hinged apart to receive the selected strands of hair between the panels and subsequently brought into proximity with each other to envelop the selected strands in use, characterized in that the masking aid further comprises a bag like reservoir for containing treatment process substances or precursors to treatment substances. The reservoir (52) is preferably provided in a region of the masking aid remote from the end of the masking aid in proximity to the scalp in use. In preferred embodiments the pouch is provided in a region of the masking aid furthest from the end of the masking aid in proximity to the scalp.

  • Publication number: 20060107966
Abstract: A clip for attachment to the hair of a wearer comprising a longitudinal member; a securing member extending from a first end of the longitudinal member and pivotable relative to the longitudinal member, the securing member having a hair securing portion arranged to receive the hair of a wearer therein; and a receiving means located at a second end of the longitudinal member and pivotable relative to the longitudinal member, said receiving means arranged to receive the securing member therein, wherein the securing member has a length greater than that of the longitudinal member such that in a closed configuration of the clip, the securing member extends beyond the second end of the longitudinal member and is received within the receiving means. Also provided is a method of use of such a clip alone and in combination with a further closure clip.

  • Patent number: 4071372
Abstract: The invention concerns a method of making an article from silicon nitride powder and a fluxing agent. The method comprises hot pressing a first section of the silicon nitride article, transferring the pressed section to a further mould large enough to accomodate sufficient silicon nitride powder and fluxing agent to produce the other section of the article, and subsequently hot pressing the contents of the mould to solidify the silicon nitride powder and fluxing agent into the second section of the article which becomes bonded to the first section.

  • Patent number: 3973875
Abstract: A rotor for a gas turbine engine comprises an outer shell formed in hot pressed silicon nitride and having substantially uniform thickness in a direction parallel to the axis about which the rotor is rotatable and a heat resistant insert which can be either graphite or reaction sintered silicon nitride which fills the space within the shell and is attached to the shell. A row of blades which can be either hot pressed or reaction sintered silicon nitride can be attached to the periphery of the rotor by diffusion bonding.

  • Patent number: 3972662
Abstract: The invention is concerned with apparatus for manufacturing gas turbine engine components e.g. guide vanes and blades, in dense silicon nitride starting with silicon nitride in a powder form.Guide vanes are usually in the form of an aerofoil portion and two shroud portions and according to the invention, the aerofoil portion is made in a first mould by hot pressing a mixture of silicon nitride powder and a fluxing agent, such as magnesia. The formed aerofoil is placed in a second mould so that each end extends partly into a space which is to be filled with a further mixture of silicon nitride powder and a fluxing agent. The further mixtures are hot pressed both to form the shroud portions and to amalgamate the shroud portions with the aerofoil portion.Features, such as, flanges and webs can be formed in the shrouds during the moulding process or they can be machined into the shrouds after the vane is removed from the second mould.
