  • Patent number: 8033306
Abstract: An adapter includes a base connectable to an anesthetic agent container, a spout that extends from the base and defines at least one flow path therethrough, and a valve assembly disposed within the at least one flow path, the valve assembly being moveable between a first open position and a second closed position. The adapter also includes a radially expandable seal disposed about the spout, the seal having a first end, a second end, and an intermediate region between the first and second ends that expands radially outward relative to a longitudinal axis of the spout. The valve assembly has a surface that cooperates with the seal, wherein the cooperation between the surface and the seal expands the intermediate region radially outward relative to the longitudinal axis with the valve assembly in the first position.

  • Publication number: 20030224371
Abstract: An integrated cartridge for automated sample manipulation and, particularly strand displacement amplification, is provided. The cartridge comprises a sealed, two-part device with internal fluid channels and chambers, as well as reagents. The cartridge performs the sequence of fluid transfers, reagent additions and heat transitions, such as those of the strand displacement amplification process, in a single, sealed device.

  • Patent number: 6332467
Abstract: A Feeding tube spike set with integrated Y-port is disclosed. The preferred spike set includes a spike, a drip chamber, a y-port fitting, a stepped connector, and tubing connecting these components to one another in series. The y-port fitting further includes a body, a plug assembly and an undulating retaining member connecting the plug assembly to the body. The plug assembly further includes a plug from which a pair of tabs extend. The body also includes a flushing port formed within it; the preferred flushing port includes a plurality of ridges formed along it's bore to assist in retaining a secure seal between the inserted plug and the body.

  • Patent number: 5568806
Abstract: An improved insertion set is provided for transcutaneous placement of a sensor such as a glucose sensor at a selected site within the body of a patient. The insertion set comprises an insertion needle extending through a mounting base adapted for mounting onto the patient's skin. A flexible thin film sensor includes a proximal segment carried by the mounting base and adapted for electrical connection to a suitable monitor or the like, and a distal segment protruding from the mounting base with sensor electrodes thereon for transcutaneous placement. The distal segment of the sensor and a distal segment of the insertion needle are positioned within a flexible cannula which extends from the mounting base, whereby placement of the mounting base onto the patient's skin causes the insertion needle to pierce the skin for transcutaneous placement of the cannula with the sensor therein.

  • Patent number: 4212973
Abstract: Disclosed is a process comprising reacting the reaction product of cyclopentanone and methyl cyanoacetate with cyanoacetamide and/or the reaction product of cyclopentanone and cyanoacetamide with methyl cyanoacetate, in the presence of a basic catalyst, to give the intermediate .beta.,.beta.-tetramethylene-.alpha.,.alpha.'-dicyanoglutarim ide, or its salt. In the process, the said reaction products may be formed together in the same reaction system, and the said intermediate preparation preferably is carried out between about 10.degree. C. and about 50.degree. C., in a polar, aprotic solvent, and in the presence of a basic catalyst, e.g., such as triethylamine. The intermediate may then be hydrolyzed to the cyclopentane-1,1-diacetic acid.

  • Patent number: 3932959
Abstract: An adjustable shutter assembly is provided in which a pair of opposed vertical frame supports carry a plurality of spaced laterally extending louvers journaled at their ends and pivotally mounted in said supports with an actuator rod shiftably coupling the louvers. Vertical adjustment is enabled using legs which are broken off to desired length, and a boot which grips the lower end of the assembly. A shutter assembly hanging strip having an adjustable shoe at its lower end is also provided so that the assembly can be hung as desired at the sides of a window, the shoe matching the length of the hanging strip to the length of the assembly. The hanging strip includes hinge mounting means at the side of the strip to accommodate lateral adjustment of the shutter assembly.
