  • Patent number: 6169784
Abstract: In a 2-wire connection from a telephone exchange to a subscriber, the connection is made via a subscriber line interface circuit (SLIC) and a termination box, the termination box having a capacitor and a resistor connected in series between the two wires of the connection and between the SLIC and the subscriber. The SLIC includes means to reverse the polarity between the two wires of the connection and there is measuring means whereby the current required to change the capacitor to the opposite polarity may be measured enabling determination of the impedance between the two wires of the connection.

  • Patent number: 6058490
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for providing scalable layers of highly available applications using loosely coupled commercially available computers. The software running on the loosely coupled computers is divided into three layers: the system layer, the platform layer, and the application layer, each having its own process group activation and fault recovery strategy. A process group contains software processes that depend upon a set of resources common to the process group. In addition to depending upon a common set of resources, processes within a process group share a fault recovery strategy. Fault recovery is performed at the process group level, such that if one process within a process group fails, fault recovery is takes place for all processes within the process group. In the preferred embodiment, an application layer process group may be paired with another application layer process group on a separate computer.

  • Patent number: 5180052
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is disclosed a display tray having a tray body with a bottom wall, opposing front and rear walls and an open top. At least one support wall is spaced between the rear walls and extends upward from the bottom wall to define a plurality of article carrying rows. A plurality of openings are positioned in the front, rear or support walls adjacent to the bottom wall for receiving projections of articles to be carried in the display tray and retaining the articles in the article carrying rows. In one embodiment, a bottom wall flap member overlies the bottom wall and is folded to form at least one support wall spaced between front and rear walls and extending upward from the bottom wall to form a plurality of article carrying rows. The bottom wall flap member includes front and rear upward extending flap wall members positioned adjacent the interior of respective front and rear walls of the tray body.

  • Patent number: 4930046
Abstract: A plurality of slide-in unit connectors are provided for receiving the slide-in units or the auxiliary slide-in units. The slide-in unit connectors are wired to at least three cable connectors in such manner that when a first cable connector only is used, each slide-in unit connector is connected to receive a respective slide-in unit, when a second cable connector only is used, one of the slide-in unit connectors is connected to receive an auxiliary slide-in unit; and when a third cable connector only is used, two of the slide-in unit connectors are connected to receive in tandem a respective auxiliary slide-in unit.

  • Patent number: 4735012
Abstract: An artificial lure includes a spoon body portion having a triangular opening within which a spirally fluted conical spinner is mounted for rotation on the longitudinal axis of the spinner and spoon body portion. The trailing end of the spoon body portion carries a deflector lip causing erratic movement of the lure in the water. The fishing line is attached to the forward end of the spoon body portion. A longitudinal extension of the spoon body portion on the deflector lip carries a skirt having a multitude of strands which substantially conceal a multi-barbed fish hook attached to the rear of the longitudinal extension.

  • Patent number: 4350281
Abstract: A unitary blank and a container formed from the blank that includes cut case protection in the form of full and partial inner wall elements. The container comprises a pair of end walls and a pair of side walls in alternating side-by-side relation. At least one of the end walls includes a top closure flap and both of the end walls include a bottom closure flap to form an outer section of a bottom closure. The side walls each have a side wall liner flap that is substantially the same dimension as the side wall and which is adapted to fold into face-to-face contact with the associated side wall, and bottom closure flap hingedly connected to the side wall at a first score line and adapted to form coplanar portions of an inner section of the bottom closure. The bottom closure flaps of the side wall each include a partial end wall liner flap hingedly connected at a second score line perpendicular to the first score line and adjacent to an end thereof.
