  • Patent number: 4720797
Abstract: A control system is provided for a processing container line to detect the occurence of a jam or other malfunction within the line. The system compensates for the initialization of the line when a number of containers enter the line before any are discharged therefrom. The system also allows for a tolerable limit on the number of containers which may become "lost" in the processing line without indicating a jam in the line.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 17, 1985
Date of Patent: January 19, 1988
    Assignee: Peco Controls Corporation
Inventors: John Sommerfield, Raymond E. Babb
  • Patent number: 4259020
Abstract: Apparatus for color grading of products such as fruits, vegetables, et cetera, employing a light source for illuminating the product and means for detecting and comparing the reflectance to measure certain product properties. For calibration, a target of known color is moved in front of the light source and the resulting signal is compared with a reference signal to generate a modifying signal. For automatic calibration of the apparatus this modifying signal is stored and thereafter used to adjust all subsequent readout signals.

  • Patent number: 4057352
Abstract: Apparatus for color grading of products, such as fruits, vegetables, et cetera, employing light sources for illuminating the products in the infrared and green or lower wavelengths, and means for detecting and comparing the reflectance in the two light regions to measure certain properties of the product. The light source used for the infrared radiation is an improved gas discharge lamp utilizing argon gas.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 13, 1976
Date of Patent: November 8, 1977
Assignees: Genevieve I. Hanscom, Robert M. Magnuson, Lois J. Thomson
    Inventor: Raymond E. Babb
  • Patent number: 3998555
Abstract: Apparatus for color grading of liquid or solid products, such as fruits, vegetables, etc., said apparatus employs an electronic device which measures the ratio of reflectance of the products at two separated parts of the light spectrum. The device views either a calibration surface or the product being tested so that between tests the operator can see whether or not the instrument is holding its calibration and adjust it if necessary.
