    Abstract: A process for preparing a toner donor roll having an integral electrode pattern involving: (a) providing a cylindrically shaped insulating member; (b) coating the insulating member with a photo or thermally sensitive composition comprised of a polymeric material and a conductive metal nucleating agent; (c) patterning the composition, resulting in a first composition portion corresponding to the electrode pattern and a second composition portion; and (d) depositing conductive metal on the first composition portion, resulting in the electrode pattern which is capable of being electrically biased to detach toner particles from the donor roll. In an alternative embodiment, there is provided an insulating member comprised of an insulating polymeric material and a conductive metal nucleating agent.

    Abstract: A heat sink for a thermal ink jet printhead has improved resistance to the corrosive effects of ink by forming a chromate film on a copper plated metal substrate. In one described embodiment, a thermal ink jet printer is formed by bonding together a channel plate and a heater plate. Resistors and electrical connections are formed in the surface of the heater plate. The heater plate is bonded to a heat sink comprising a zinc substrate having a copper film plated on one surface. The copper plated heat sink is immersed in a chromic acid and water bath. Metal anodes are placed within the bath and a field is applied for a period of time sufficient to form a polymeric chromate film on the copper plated surface. The chromate film has improved resistance to ink corrosion and exhibits a stronger printhead to heat sink bonding strength.

    Abstract: A thermal ink jet printhead of the type which expels droplets on demand towards a recording medium from nozzles located above and generally parallel with the bubble generating heating elements contained therein is disclosed, together with fabrication processes therefor. The droplets are propelled along trajectories that are perpendicular to the heating element surfaces and from nozzles located in the printhead roof; such configuration is generally referred to as "roofshooter". Each printhead comprises a silicon heater plate and a fluid directing structural member. The heater plate has a linear array of heating elements associated addressing electrodes, and an elongated ink fill hole parallel with the heating element array. The structural member contains at least one recessed cavity, a plurality of nozzles, and a plurality of parallel walls within the recessed cavity which define individual ink channels for directing ink to the nozzles.

    Abstract: A corona generating device for depositing negative charge on an imaging surface carried on conductive substrate comprises at least one elongated conductive corona discharge electrode, means to connect the electrode to a corona generating potential source, at least one element adjacent the corona discharge electrode capable of adsorbing nitrogen oxide species generated once the corona generating electrode is energized and capable of desorbing nitrogen oxide species once that electrode is not energized, the element being plated with a substantially continuous thin layer of lead to neutralize the nitrogen oxide species when generated.

    Abstract: A process for nickel plating a cylindrically shaped hollow core mandrel suitable for chromium plating for use in an electroforming process for the production of endless seamless nickel xerographic belts, is disclosed. The process comprises providing a hollow core aluminum or aluminum alloy cylindrically shaped member and (1) anodizing this core member by using this core member as an anode in an anodizing bath where the cathode comprises lead or lead alloys and (2) nickel plating this anodized core member in a nickel electroforming bath where the core member becomes the cathode and the anode is nickel or nickel alloy. Additionally and optionally, this core member may then be (3) subjected to an acid dip bath where the core member remains for a particular length of time and, additionally, then the core member is (4) plated with chromium by placing the core member in a chromium electroplating bath with a metal anode of lead or lead alloys.

    Abstract: A cylindrically shaped hollow mandrel is disclosed which is suitable in an electroforming process used for the production of an endless seamless nickel xerographic belt. The mandrel set forth comprises a metal core member with a thin removable metal sleeve having a thickness between about 10 and 60 mils which is fitted over said core member to provide a surface for electroforming of the nickel belt. Mandrels disclosed in the present invention have the advantage of a longer lifetime of use in a continuous electroforming process because of the replaceable nature of the metal sleeve.
