  • Patent number: 5653505
Abstract: A highly compact, stable mechanism for enabling a chair to perform rocking and gliding movements, and optionally swiveling movement, includes a channel-shaped frame mounting member mounted to a chair frame, and an inverted channel-shaped base mounting member mounted on a base. The mounting members are interconnected by one pair of front and one pair of rear swing arms, and also by a pair of tensioned springs operative for restraining the rocking and gliding movements.

  • Patent number: 5346277
Abstract: A headrest mechanism suitable for use in a seating unit comprising a headrest plate movable between a retracted position and an extended position having a lower front edge, means for actuating the headrest plate between the retracted position and the extended position pivotally interconnected to the headrest plate, and means for fixedly mounting the headrest mechanism onto the seating unit pivotally connected to the actuating means is disclosed. In the retracted position, the headrest plate is disposed generally horizontally, with the lower front edge being separated from a fixed point on the mounting means by a first distance, and in the extended position, the headrest plate is disposed generally vertically, with the lower edge being separated from the same fixed point on the mounting means by a second distance, the second distance being substantially greater than the first distance.

  • Patent number: 4691961
Abstract: In a one-way recliner chair of the type having a stationary backrest frame which extends upwardly behind a movable backrest, a headrest is mounted on the top of the stationary backrest frame for movement between a retracted position when the chair is in the normal position, and a projected position when the chair is in the reclining position. The headrest is automatically actuated between the aforesaid positions by means of a linklage interconnecting the headrest and the movable backrest upon movement of the latter between a normal or generally upright position and a reclining position.

  • Patent number: 4493469
Abstract: A height adjustment control arrangement for adjusting the height of a chair seat relative to a chair base in an office chair, includes a lower mounting assembly, an upper mounting assembly vertically displaceable relative to the lower mounting assembly, and a user-operated adjusting assembly operatively connected to the lower and upper mounting assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4352523
Abstract: A spring-assisted trigger handle assembly for a three-way, wall-proximity reclining chair which is movable from an end-limiting upright position, to a TV position, and then to an end-limiting fully-reclined position. The handle assembly is operative for affirmatively forwardly driving the linkage system for the chair only as the latter is moved from its initial upright position to an intermediate chair position which is between the two end-limiting chair positions. A tensioned spring assists the handle assembly in forwardly driving the linkage system once the handle assembly has moved the chair to the general vicinity of the intermediate chair position. The body weight of a seated user is thereupon conveniently utilized to assist the spring at the end of its operation to move the chair to the TV position. The tensioned spring secures the chair in the upright position in an over-center locked condition until the handle assembly causes the spring to suddenly release its stored energy.
