  • Patent number: 4694673
Abstract: A container guidance system for extrusion presses wherein heat-induced misalignment of the container and container holder from the press centerline axis is prevented or rendered negligible by the substantially diametric positioning of the container holder lugs and their press frame-associated guideways.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 3, 1985
Date of Patent: September 22, 1987
    Assignee: Wean Industries, Inc.
    Inventor: Raymond F. Boshold
  • Patent number: 4244205
Abstract: An arrangement for obtaining proper alignment of parts and proper sealing of parts in an extrusion press having an offset supporting shaft rotatably carrying a container holder assembly and two or more containers into which heated billets are placed to be brought to the extrusion station. A set of aligning keys diametrically opposite each other on both ends of each container engage with a corresponding set of keyways in a sealing member and a die slide respectively.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 25, 1978
Date of Patent: January 13, 1981
    Assignee: Wean United Inc.
    Inventor: Raymond F. Boshold
  • Patent number: 4242895
Abstract: This disclosure relates in part to a hot extrusion press wherein the extrusion is cooled immediately after the extrusion operation by arranging a cooling tube including a cooling nozzle within the platen of the press and a second cooling nozzle between the platen and a water tank to which the extrusion is ultimately transferred for final cooling. The second cooling nozzle is employed to cool the extrusion and on the occasion of a cobbled extrusion, it is employed to drain the cooling tube and at the same time prevents water from flowing from the tank into the tube.

  • Patent number: 4165627
Abstract: In the direct extrusion of tubing wherein the extruded tube or tubing is immediately submerged into water after extrusion and having a closed leading end, the trailing end thereof in the extrusion press is sealed off from the entrance of water by a crimping device consisting of a tool having a rounded front end which engages and forces through the operation of a piston cylinder assembly one wall inwardly of the trailing end against an opposed wall to form a collapsed double wall cross section.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 8, 1977
Date of Patent: August 28, 1979
    Assignee: Wean United, Inc.

  • Patent number: 4154081
Abstract: This disclosure pertains to a method and device for changing a die ring to and from a die in an indirect extrusion press. Once the die-die ring assembly is exposed from the container of the press, the changing device consisting of a rotating arm having opposed relatively movable jaws is caused to engage the die ring and remove it from the extrusion axis of the press, and after treatment, if necessary, to return it to the extrusion axis and place it on the die.In the operation of indirect extrusion presses it has been the normal practice to employ a composite die assembly consisting of a die and outer encircling die ring. After completion of the extrusion operation the die ring is removed from the back of the container and either the same die ring or a second one is placed back on the die after the die or the container has been moved to position the die at the front of the container.
