Patent number: 11931085Abstract: A driver-specific back-out prevention mechanism is disclosed that includes a screw and a body. A first driver can be used for coupling and decoupling the screw with the body, and a second driver can only be used for adjusting the position of the screw in the receiving body. The body includes a cavity for receiving a head of the screw, with the cavity having an inward flange. The screw includes upper and lower sockets, with a channel extending though the head from the lower socket and a lock body disposed in the channel. Engagement with the first driver allows the locking body to move such that the fastener can be inserted and removed from the body. Engagement with the second driver displaces the locking body such that the locking body interferes with the flange such that screw fastener cannot be removed from the body by the second driver.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2021Date of Patent: March 19, 2024Assignee: MEDOS INTERNATIONAL SÀRLInventors: Keanan R. Smith, Joshua Rodriguez, Raymond F. Murphy

Patent number: 11925362Abstract: Reamer instruments and related methods are disclosed for use in preparing bone, such as a glenoid bone surface, to receive an implant requiring one of two or more possible surface geometries. Described reamer instruments can have a modular or multi-component design. A minimal number of components can be particular to a particular required geometry, which can allow assembly and use of reamer instruments of the present disclosure to be flexible, intuitive, and efficient. In some embodiments, a disposable reamer head assembly can be driven by a disposable drive tip through a pin-on-pin connection. The remaining components of the reamer instrument can be sterilized and re-used. To prepare bone for a half-wedge implant, a half-wedge housing can be coupled to a reamer instrument handle and a depth stop can be coupled to the housing to achieve the required geometry. Alternatively, a full-wedge housing can be coupled to the instrument handle.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2021Date of Patent: March 12, 2024Assignee: DEPUY IRELAND UNLIMITED COMPANYInventors: Stephen J. Orphanos, Gary Fernandes, Christian Amaral, Francisco A. Amaral, Raymond F. Murphy, Robert Ciocca

Patent number: 11291482Abstract: Kerrison-style rod reducers, inline-style rod reducers, and related methods of using the disclosed rod reducers for holding a spinal implant and seating a fixation rod in a rod-receiving portion of the spinal implant are provided for herein. The disclosed rod reducers can also be configured for applying a set screw or other closure mechanism to secure the rod within the rod-receiving portion of the spinal implant. The disclosed embodiments can be easy to use, not require significant force to operate, and be efficient, thereby reducing the time and expense necessary to perform spinal surgery. The disclosed rod reducers can be readily dissembled, thereby making these surgical instruments easy to clean and sterilize.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2019Date of Patent: April 5, 2022Assignee: MEDOS INTERNATIONAL SARLInventors: Kurt Schmura, Raymond F. Patent number: 9788869Abstract: A spinal fixation element rotation instrument with two lever arms is provided. The lever arms are connected to each other at distal ends thereof. The second lever arm rotates relative to the first lever arm. The distal ends of the first and second lever arms are adapted to couple to a spinal fixation element. The distal ends of the lever arms may have a dual ratchet feature that prevents rotation in a set direction. When one arm rotates back and forth, the other arm is held stationary. As a result, the spinal fixation element rotates in a predetermined direction and is prevented from rotating back toward its initial position. The direction of the rotation of the spinal fixation element may be set using knobs or switches provided at a proximal end of one or both of the lever arms.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2009Date of Patent: October 17, 2017Assignee: DEPUY SYNTHES PRODUCTS, INC.Inventors: Shawn D.
