    Abstract: A method of forming an adhesive bond between two surfaces to form a bonded structure involves the stepsI. applying to at least one of the surfaces a curable composition containing:(i) one or more epoxide group containing materials containing at least two epoxide groups per molecule;(ii) a positive amount of an effectively thermoplastic polyester, which does not react into the curable composition and is present as a blended ingredient, which does not exceed 40 percent by weight based on the total weight of the epoxide and polyester components of the composition, said polyester having a weight average molecular weight from about 1,000 to about 8,000, being nonreactive with the one or more epoxide group containing materials of (a) and being insoluble in the one or more epoxide group containing materials of (i); and(iii) a curing agent adapted to cure the epoxide group containing materials of (i); andII. at least partially curing the curable composition to form the bonded structure.

    Abstract: A polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated urea urethane polymer dispersed in a polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound is prepared by a process which comprises reacting a polyisocyanate, at least a portion of which is a diisocyanate, with a polyfunctional amine containing primary and/or secondary amino groups in the presence of:(a) a polyol, at least a portion of which is a polymeric polyol containing ethylenic unsaturation and having a carbon to oxygen ratio of at least 4/1;(b) a diluent which is an ethylenically unsaturated compound free of active hydrogens; and(c) an active hydrogen containing polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound; under conditions sufficient to form a polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated urea urethane polymer dispersed in a polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound.The aforedescribed urea urethane polymer dispersions are particularly useful in formulating curable compositions suitable for use as adhesives and sealants.

    Abstract: A curable composition which contains polyepoxide and amine curing agent free of amide groups and which is of a substantially lower viscosity than the polyepoxide is improved by thickening the amine to a viscosity comparable to that of the polyepoxide. The amine is thickened by either incorporating into the amine curing agent a polyamide in an amount not exceeding 35 percent by weight based on the amount of amine curing agent of a polyamide; or converting a portion of the amine curing agent to polyamide by in situ chain extension to form amide groups wherein the chain extension is carried out in an excess of amine curing agent before the amine curing agent is admixed with the polyepoxide component of the curable composition; or a combination thereof.
