Publication number: 20070237629Abstract: A flowpath ring is securable in a machined groove of a gas turbine compressor stator casing. The ring includes a connector section engageable with and shaped corresponding to the machined groove. A flowpath section is disposed radially inward relative to the connector section and includes a clearance surface disposed facing a turbine rotor blade. The flowpath section defines a blade flowpath when secured in the turbine stator casing machined groove. The use of flowpath rings facilitates flowpath repair if rotor blade tip rubs occur. Additionally, the rings enable better matching of transient thermal responses between the compressor rotor and compressor casings.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 5, 2006Publication date: October 11, 2007Applicant: General Electric CompanyInventors: Jeff Moree, Nicholas Poccia, Lynn Gagne, Raymond Goetze, David Johnson

Publication number: 20070107218Abstract: A method of attaching a shroud cover segment to a plurality of gas turbine compressor stator vanes includes: (a) forming each of the plurality of stator vanes with at least one tenon extending from a radially inner tip of each of the stator vanes; (b) forming the shroud cover segment with at least one aperture for each of the at least one tenon; (c) locating the plurality of stator vanes and the shroud cover segment such that the at least one tenon of each of the stator vanes projects through a respective aperture in the shroud cover; and (d) forming the at least one tenon of each of the plurality of stator vanes to create an enlarged tenon head on each of the tenons, thereby fixing the shroud cover segment to the plurality of stator vanes.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2005Publication date: May 17, 2007Applicant: General Electric CompanyInventors: Nicholas Poccia, Erik Jacobson, Nicholas Martin, Raymond Goetze, Lynn Gagne

Patent number: 5515783Abstract: Ignition current is conducted by a firing circuit through a firing pin to a rimer mixture retained by its cap within a cartridge case from which the cap is electrically separated by an insulator to effect primer ignition with reduced lock time by activation of a firing switch independently of the firing pin. Voltage for the firing circuit is derived from a battery, maintained in a charged condition by alternate voltage supply sources, and stored at an ignition firing level for a prolonged period of time to accommodate selective activation of the firing switch after the firing pin contacts the primer cap.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1993Date of Patent: May 14, 1996Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Philip W. Hesse, Raymond Goetz, Daniel Lenko

Patent number: 5285727Abstract: An RF-insensitive semiconductor ignitor and primer cup assembly is created sing a double polished n-type silicon substrate having its top and bottom surfaces partially metallized to form Schottky barrier diodes. The metallized portion of the back side of the substrate is placed in contact with a conductive surface, and means are provided to electrically isolate those portions of the substrate which have not been metallized from both the metallized portions and the conductive surface. In one embodiment, the isolating means is an integral oxide ring which extends from the periphery of the contact metal to the edge of the substrate. In another embodiment, the means of isolation is a separate plastic ring.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1992Date of Patent: February 15, 1994Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Robert B.
