  • Patent number: 5320592
Abstract: An adjustable and collapsible bench system (10) is provided for supporting the body of a user while allowing a plurality of orientations to be fixed at the user's behest. The bench system (10) includes a body support mechanism (16) which is adjustably mounted on a base frame mechanism (24). The body support mechanism (16) may be rotationally actuated with respect to the base frame mechanism (24) and releasably secured to the base frame mechanism (24) to provide a plurality of angular orientations of the body support mechanism (16) with respect to the base surface (12). The body support mechanism (16) may be rotationally collapsed to allow for a minimization of the dimensional volume of the bench system (10).

  • Patent number: 5284462
Abstract: A body exercising apparatus (10) is provided which allows for individual and combinational exercising of an upper body portion (12) and a lower body portion (14) of a user (16). The body exercising apparatus (10) includes a frame (18) having opposing and longitudinally displaced front and rear sections (22 and 24). There is provided an upper body exercising mechanism (46) which allows the user to grip a pair of hand grip members (54) and rotatively actuate a pair of hand actuated rotating shafts (50) through a crank arm joint mechanism (60) in a variety of orientations with respect to frame (18). Additionally, there is provided a lower body or foot positioning mechanism (90) which allows for adjustable force rotation by a pair of pedal members (96).

  • Patent number: 5145479
Abstract: A total body exercising apparatus (100) for exercising the upper and lower body portions of a user (10) with separate and independent resistive loading forces, against which the respective body portion is exercised. The separate and independent resistive loading force assemblies (160,210) are integrated into a single frame structure (102) to permit the simultaneous operation of both the upper and lower body exercising mechanisms, while permitting the resistance loading forces to be independently adjusted. The upper body exercise assembly (170) includes an adjustable upper body crank assembly (171) wherein adjustable crank arm members (172) are rotatively coupled to a pair of respective frame arm members (118,119). Frame arm members (118,119) are angularly adjustable, in the plane of rotation of the crank assembly (171), allowing the total body exercising apparatus (100) to be adaptable to a wide range of users with varying physical characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5125648
Abstract: An upper body exercise system (10) is provided for exercising the upper body (16) of a user (12) in conjunction with a lower body exercise mechanism (14). The upper body exercise system includes a foot actuated mechanism (22) which is displaced by the user (12) and has a substantially longitudinally directed axis (31). Handle mechanism (30) is included and adapted to be grasped by the user (12) and is displaceably coupled to the foot actuated mechanism (22) and includes a central axis (36). Further, the exercise system (10) provides for an upper body exercise system coupling mechanism (40) which allows for the combination of rotation of the handle mechanism (30) about the central axis (36) and a rotation of the handle mechanism (30) about the longitudinally directed axis (31) of the foot actuated mechanism (22).

  • Patent number: 5074551
Abstract: A multi-exercise system (10) is provided to actuate a resistive force loading responsive to an implied force by a user. A rotational actuation mechanism (84) is provided for bi-directional rotation about a singular axis (16) and coupled to an upper carriage (42) of resistive force mechanism (40). The rotational actuation mechanism (84) provides an initial rotative displacement in either of two opposite directions which is transformed into a linear displacement of the resistive force loading members (72). The rotational actuation mechanism (84) may include a sprocket wheel 86 whose rotative axis (16') is displaced from the sprocket wheel center (87') for compensating for the change in load force as the elastic cord members (72) are stretched.

  • Patent number: 5067708
Abstract: A multi-function exercise system (10) for reversibly displacing weight elements (12) in a substantially vertical direction (14) responsive to a rotative displacement force applied to the actuating arm assembly (38) from an initial position in either of two opposite directions. The exercise system (10) includes a transforming mechanism (100) displaceably coupled to a base frame (18) in order to accommodate the user applying the rotative force to the actuating arm assembly (38). The transforming mechanism (100) includes a rotative displacement member (102) rotatively coupled to the actuating arm assembly (38). Rotative displacement member (102) is coupled to a linear displacement member (104) by a pair of flexible chain members (108) and (110), coupled to opposing sides of rotative displacement member (102).
