Patent number: 9926900Abstract: A shield and clip assembly is provided for use with a joint that connects the ends of pipes conveying a fluid under pressure. The joint includes a primary retention feature for retaining the connected pipe ends. The shield and clip assembly includes a cover configured to encapsulate the joint and the ends of the pipes sufficiently to ensure that the connected ends will not fully disengage from the joint and to ensure that leakage or spray, if any, of the fluid being conveyed from a leaking joint will be attenuated or shielded. The joint may be an in-line quick connector joint.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2015Date of Patent: March 27, 2018Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Raymond H. Sasinowski, Adrian O. Balmaceda, Rolf B. Karlsson

Publication number: 20170211715Abstract: A fluid bypass valve includes a valve member disposed within a valve chamber. The valve member closes fluid communication between a first port and a second port disposed in a first position, and connects the first port and the second port in fluid communication when disposed in a second position. The valve member includes a temperature based actuating mechanism that positions the valve member in the first position when a temperature of a fluid is equal to or less than a pre-defined temperature, and positions the valve member in the second position when the temperature of the fluid is greater than the pre-defined temperature. A temporary spacer is disposed within the valve chamber, and positions the valve member in the second position. The temporary spacer includes a melting temperature approximately equal to the pre-defined temperature at which the valve member moves between the first position and the second position.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2016Publication date: July 27, 2017Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Adrian O. Patent number: 9522444Abstract: A fan shroud and seal ring are assembled together to allow a condenser, radiator, and fan module (CRFM) to be vertically loaded into an engine compartment of a vehicle to be mounted to the vehicle chassis and engine with a fan stator. The fan shroud has a plurality of first attachment components, and the seal ring has a plurality of second attachment components, each of which corresponds to a first attachment component. Each first attachment component engages with a corresponding second attachment component to secure the seal ring to the fan shroud, such that the seal ring is positioned around at least a portion of the fan stator after the CRFM has been mounted and the assembly is in its final configuration.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2012Date of Patent: December 20, 2016Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Raymond H. Patent number: 9360140Abstract: A sealing device is insertable into a port having an internal wall. The device includes a seal member and a ring member operatively connected to each other. The seal member includes an inner seal surface defining a seal opening. The ring member includes an inner ring surface defining a ring opening. The seal opening and the ring opening share a common central axis. The seal member defines a first rib extending circumferentially around the seal opening, the first rib being raised a first height relative to the inner seal surface at the seal opening. The first rib is configured to be deformable in response to a compression force from the internal wall of the port when the seal member is inserted into the port. The seal member may define a second rib axially spaced from the first rib.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2013Date of Patent: June 7, 2016Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Raymond H.
