  • Publication number: 20050087030
Abstract: A multi-speed, dual clutch transmission includes an input shaft, an output shaft, and first and second countershafts. The first and second countershafts are axially displaced from the input shaft, the output shaft and from one another. Four intermeshing gear pairs, an interconnecting gear set having first, second and third members, a first single gear and an idler gear, some of which are engageable with at least some of the shafts via a first clutch, a second clutch, and six torque-transmitting mechanisms, establish eight forward speed ratios and one reverse speed ratio. Furthermore, shifting between the forward speed ratios is dynamic.

  • Publication number: 20050064981
Abstract: A shift mechanism for a manual planetary transmission has a plurality of control members. Each control member has a slot configuration for each shift rail defined therein. The slot configurations are aligned among plates and a pin member is inserted in each of the slot configurations. Manipulation of any one of the plates produces movement of two or more of the pin members. The pin members are operable upon movement to select the engagement of the synchronizers, which are disposed within a power transmission. The synchronizers establish drive ratios between the input shaft for the transmission and the output shaft for the transmission.

  • Publication number: 20050049106
Abstract: A planetary transmission has a plurality of rotating-type torque-transmitting mechanism that are operable to connect a rotating input mechanism with one or more planetary gear members. At least two of the rotating-type torque-transmitting mechanisms are radially stacked and axially aligned. At least one of the radially stacked rotating torque-transmitting mechanisms has an apply piston that is slidably mounted in a stationary transmission housing, an apply plate that is rotatable with a portion of the torque-transmitting mechanism, and a bearing disposed therebetween to accommodate relative rotation therebetween.
