  • Patent number: 4443576
Abstract: Novel polymeric compositions useful as thickeners and rheology modifiers for oil-in-water emulsion systems are disclosed. The water-soluble or swellable compositions described contain, prior to polymerization, from:______________________________________ 10-70% Acrylamide or methacrylamide; 20-70% Acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, or their water-soluble salts; 5-50% Of a hydroxyalkylacrylate; 0-10% Of a polyfunctional monomeric branching material; and, 0-15% Low molecular weight water-soluble copolymer of a non-ionic or anionic water-soluble vinyl addition monomer and lower alkylacrylate. ______________________________________Optionally a water-soluble polymer dispersant may be added to the composition after polymerization.
